While I agree the Gap series kicked ass, the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant were also a good read. Also, the Mirror of Her Dreams duology was excellent.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: Stephen R. Donaldson's books don't deserve to be made fun of.
Lady Chatterley's Lover was a birthday gift for Sara actually. I've only read part of it myself, so i'd recommend borrowing her copy if she'll let you.
My, but your penchance for reading modern day novels rivals my love of the classics. And Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell totally does not need a sequel. My god but that would be skittering the edges of it becoming the adult version of the Harry Potter series much too close, wouldn't you say?
I really didn't like the ending for Jonathan Strange. It was really weak. There doesn't have to be a full on sequel, I just want more books set in the same world.
I guess The Chronicles were okay, but even after a hundred pages I was still not really into the book and dumped it. Not enough real meat to the fantasy world. I just think The Gap series narrative strength is several orders better than The Chronicles. Never read Mirror Of Her Dreams though.
Also I was writing most of that commentary at like six am this morning after having previously pulled a 16 hour shift at work the day before. Not necessarily an excuse, just a qualifier.
I'll admit that Lord Foul's Bane was a bit slow, but The Illearth War and The Power That Preserves were wonderful. Then there's the Second Chronicles, which are simply superb.
You should definitely read the Mirror Of Her Dreams. I imagine it's a kind of book you'd be able to get behind.
45 minutes of my life. I hope you're happy. In regards to the pissing contest, why don't I have any italicized? Because I was reading at the age of 3, that's why. Suck on that.
Ya'll need to read Army Regulation 670-1. A quintessential piece of military non-fiction, I especially enjoyed the chapter "Proper wear of the Army Service Uniform" and the paragraph detailing authorized fingernail length and cleanliness. An absolute page-turner, I tell you!
Grow, could you let Nick Navetta know I can't send him that rock he wanted? I don't know if you ever see him anymore, or if you even read Lj often enough to notice this... I was checking the regs on mailable items the other day and evidently "Sand and soil" qualifies as unmailable. It's up to you if you want to discern why he would want an Iraqi rock in the first place... Anyone who wants something from Iraq can contact me at skellyscribe@gmail.com
