Set your winamp/windows media/whatever the hell you use to listen to music with to "random" and write down the first 25 songs it plays (no matter how gay or embarassing!!!!). Then list a reason why you like the song! (That's the twist!)
1. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Scar Tissue. I absolutely love this song because it's got this rare love-song point of view where it's the whole "I know you don't love me but I'll go on loving you despite the unrequitedness"...plus its just lyrically beautiful.
2. DLG (Dark Latin Groove) - Mueve. Ok, I secretly have this deep love of salsa music, and yes I attempt to dance to it too...keyword: attempt.
3. Verve Pipe - Bittersweet Symphony. Gorgeous string music, and well who can debate the whole "life is life and it sucks sometimes but you know you love it" message?
4. Jessica Simpson - I wanna love you forever. I knew I wouldn't get far before one of my guilty pleasure songs showed up. Yes I enjoy Jessica Simpson songs (yes, plural) even though they're undeniably cheesy.
5. Dixie Chicks - There's your Trouble. Such a great song for a bad day or a drinking night, or just a night where you're reveling in your singledom.
6. Evanescence - Everybody's Fool. Ironically it's sort of the antithesis of song #5 - about fooling yourself into love, and imagining a world that never really existed.
7. N.E.R.D. - She Wants to Move. LOVE me some Neptunes dude...some great beats and I don't care how badly you dance you automatically start dancing when this one comes on - and dirty dancing at that.
8. Restless Heart - Bluest Eyes in Texas. Just an odd thing about me - I like songs that include lyrics about blue eyes, cause well...I have them and they're rare. Plus this song is a great tear in your beer song.
9. Howie Day - She Says. Right after I'd gotten completely over liking Collide (it's been overplayed on the radio here) I find this song and fall in love with it.
10. Aerosmith - Cryin. It's Aerosmith...nuff said.
11. If ya think I'm sexy - Remix (no idea on artist). It's a rap version of the old Rod Stewart thing, and I realize that sounds completely fucked up, but it's happy-go-lucky and kinda disco-y. And you have to respect a song with the repeated sound effect of a zipper. I dig it.
12. Wild Strawberries - I don't want to think about it. A song from one of my favorite movies of all time (Foxfire) and just...a good rainy day song or whenever you're feeling blah.
13. Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings. It's from my teen years and well, I'm honestly still lamenting their breakup.
14. Gavin DeGraw - More than Anyone. Beautiful voice, great lyrics...and from a point of view that encompasses my usual position in relationships.
15. Whitesnake - Here I go Again. 80s baby!!! Plus it always makes me think of Tawny Kitaen dancing on the hood of cars, and I have a tendancy to get in moods and then go off on my own sometimes, so I can relate.
16. Ingram Hill - The Timing. "Darkest sky above our heads. Your tongue is cold but still your heart it bleds for something more. Bittersweet memories from my bed. Caught your world of trust it crumbles in between my hands. Still I see there's no way out. You think you're going somewhere but there's no way I'm leaving you behind. So I'm going now but you know that I'll come back. You know I don't give up that easy. But before you think I'm gone for good our story's not yet over the timing's just not right for me tonight."
17. Melissa Etheridge - You Can Sleep While I Drive. I'm a total escapist and I love a good roadtrip, plus I'm usually the one driving, so yeah it's basically a soundtrack to what I do when I take off.
18. Sally Dworsky - Turning Circles. Again a song from one of my favorite movies - but an incredibly cheesy song with a good message; being confused about love and a lil lonely.
19. Jerry Lee Lewis - Johnny B. Goode. Jerry Lee Lewis might have been a total crank but I don't care the man could play - as evidence just try not to tap your foot when this starts playing.
20. Sting w/NY Orchestra - You Were Meant For Me. Wonderful song about a guy never telling his love how he feels, and SO beautiful.
21. Stephen Duffy - Kiss Me. No one in the world (with the exception of Mer) knows Stephen Duffy, but he had some great songs back in the 80s (one of his songs "She loves me" was in the movie Some Kind Of Wonderful), but this is just a great crush song.
22. Bran Van 3000 - Willard. I have no idea why more people aren't fans of BV3, if you're reading this go download some random songs...they're great. I can't even classify them as their sound changes with each new song; sometimes techno, sometimes rockabilly..i dunno, just go download some. Or leave a comment and I'll make you a cd.
23. Emery - Holding out for a Hero. Who doesn't remember the great scene of playing-chicken-with-tractors from Footloose? And this is the punk cover.
24. Elton John - Someone Save my Life Tonight. AHHHHHHH! I'm head over heels for anything Elton touches. Even though this one is probably his saddest song (in my estimation) I'm addicted to it.
25. Sarah McLachlan - Do what You Have to Do. Ok, remember that whole "unrequited love, but I'm still going to love you" idea from song #1? Same thing on a much bigger scale, with a bit of a goodbye theme incorporated. I think I'd propose to Sarah if I ever met her...whoever can write lyrics like "i'm ever swiftly moving trying to escape this desire, this yearning to be near you.." *sigh*
