Well, at least this is rather... tasteful to say the least. Harmless, thankfully.

[ The doctor settles down with a bottle of wine wearing... well... hm. Anyone seen Labyrinth? Yeah. Now think of it in white and less... glittery. ]It seems we're under a curse once more. And it almost being Halloween, quite timely to say the least ( Read more... )

A common holiday where I come from. Usually celebrated around this time in the fall. It was rather pagan in origin but has turned into a celebration where children dress up and get candy.

What is the meaning behind it?

[ Nerd mode on. ]

It began as a harvest festival but that changed when they believed that the barrier between the human and spirit worlds weakened during that day. Since spirits, ghouls and specters were allowed to roam the world, the only way to chase them off was to dress up in costume.
Of course, the old meaning is lost in my time and it became a rather harmless holiday.

This "curse" hardly seems to be that dreadful...

Harmless for now and I must admit, not as shocking as the previous.

[Have a general who's currently out of uniform, and currently wearing something rather similar to this, and this mask laying off to the side of him and currently being rather ignored. When he had expressed a desire for new clothes he hadn't meant he'd wanted dressed by some unknown entity and then be unable to change from the chosen outfit.]

Another curse? I take it then that we'll be rid of our current persistent clothing a week from now?

And what does this have to do with this 'halloween' that you spoke of?

I'm afraid so... And Halloween is a festival back where I'm from. Costumes like this are quite commonplace during that time of year.

[Good to know that these 'curses' were not always as upsetting as the first one he'd experienced then. He could deal with this for a week if it meant at the end of that week he could be rid of these clothes and finally change into something different.]

I see.

Might I ask just why people dress up for this festival and what it's about?

[ The doctor leans back, crossing his legs slightly as he tries to remember what he was told about it. ]

In the past, there were those who believed that the barrier between the human and spirit worlds were thin on that day. Spirits and specters, both benign and evil were allowed to wander the earth. Of course, people decided that the best way to chase away these spirits was to dress in costumes.

This meaning is lost now as it has become a harmless festival where they've kept the costumes and have children go around and ask for candy.
