Q:
Do you know why you have the freedom to say the things you do? In a marxist country you would be shot for disloyalty to your country and or it's leaders. The very troops you are say fuck the troops to are keeping you free, keeping you free! This government may not be the greatest at this moment in time but it is the greatest in the world. My thoughts are that we are entitled to our own opinions. We are given the chance to have our own opinions because of people fighting to give us the freedom of opinions. But our opinion is our own and cannot be taken away. That is all.

Damn, this whole US democracy thing is turning into fascism. "You must vote cause our troops protect you". The very idea of democratic government does not tolerate the word "must".

Excellent response. Last time I checked, the popular vote counts for little compared to the electorial vote. So while you can go out and vote, it's about as pointless as trying to get Bush to admit a mistake.

As far as servicemen, they are human and they make mistakes. Sometimes they make their errors as a group and sometimes as individuals. No one should ever give a blanket endorsement to the entire armed forces as many Americans have done. Once you evelate men to the status of gods, you place in them the potential to abuse the authority granted to them by the people. Alas history is full of such examples where people in fear end up doing stupid things. Sometimes we are no better than a frightened dog bearing it's teeth and barking... we can bite and maybe kill that which frightens us, but we do not learn to deal with the issue of fear. We learn that by force we can become the top dog. *sigh*

it boggles my mind that there's no department of peace in our government. overwhelms me how deep the claws of financial gain are embedded into killing (under the guise of protection), lining already fat pockets with blood money. saddens me that some folks feel/are encouraged to feel that the military is the only way to earn a career. enrages me that my vote is flimsy compared to the green paper arsenals amassed by elite u.s. americans. confuses me to consider violent acts in order to overthrow violent culture.

my opinion: your response was pure & inclusive, especially considering its brevity.
