i'm completely re-thinking this whole ap biology thing. what i really want to take is latin, but alas, there are no classics classes available that period. what IS available is advanced journalism, which is basically an ap class for kids who are obsessive about writing. and a requirement of the course is that you must join and contribute to the ( Read more... )

i think you should definitely join the class (if you can manage without the bio, of course.) with writing talent like yours, The Lion's Roar should be on their knees begging you to join them. i mean seriously.

p.s. The Lion's Roar!?!? how sad are these stupid newspaper names? our school's is called The Bear Truth. oh jesus.

i know! i despise these cutesy animal-related names. how is anyone supposed to take our hard-hitting news stories like "cafeteria gets new cash register" and "nicotine kills!" seriously with a name like that? it is a literary travesty, i tell you, and i for you will not stand for it.
by the way, thanks for the advice, love. i think i just might beg my guidance counselor to transfer me in before the class closes up.

you forgot "Food Guide Gets Updated"

probably the hardest-hitting report in ours last year.
i'm the editor of "The Cereal Box," a section in the paper for just jokes and laughs and crap that doesn't fit anywhere else. i suggested the section so i was deemed editor. head editor aka BITCH changed my section name from "hey, that's my bike!" (my name <333) to "the cereal box."

how DISGUSTING is that?

does "the cereal box" mean, anyway? i like your "hey, that's my bike!" it's ironic, and therefore very cool. "the cereal box" isn't even the least bit witty. stupid head editor, you should sneak into the printing room, and change the name back this year the second before it goes to press. that'll teach her. ::evil laughter::
the lion's roaractually won some sort of award (i think it's called quill + scroll), but seriously, the trash we publish, it's unbelievable. i think maybe the other schools' newspaper are just really, really bad/nonexistant, and they had to give the prize to somebody. that's the only way we'd win.

have fun shopping! oh, and sometimes its best to just contact the school, go over your schedule with them, and ask them if those classes are okay. thats what i did with liberty, anyway.

i think it's in south haverton (or something like that, i might've just made that town up), massachusetts, about 90 miles from boston. it's a centuries-old women's school, wildly liberal, and focuses every aspect of the curriculum (from philosophy to physics) on writing. oh yeah, and they're SAT-optional.

Yeah, I was a little hesitant at first. And I kind of don't want to be up in New England, in the middle of nowhere (which I hope is understandable), either. I have to visit the school and find out what it's really like before I decide to apply or not. I know Mona Lisa Smile was set in an all-women's learning enviroment and everything, but it was also supposed to take place in the 1950s at Wellesley, which is in a notoriously pretentious, college-student-unfriendly town. But I figured you could appreciate the fact that they don't require SAT scores - less stress.

I passed the AP bio test without taking the class, just the prerequisite "regular" bio. I DID work quite a bit with a review book, but without taking the class I got a 3!

And listening to republicans speak is about the most unpleasant thing one can do. It's just fucking scary. How they found some low level person in the party to open for them... BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK in front of the banner PEOPLE OF COMPASSION. It's evil in it's truest and most manipulative form. Orwell wrote about a govenment where the name given something is the opposite of the action the government performs, and it gets clearer and more frightening every day, this circus being the most explicit instance in recent memory. Sure the DNC was silly, but they were most assuradly gloating about things that caused great sufferning to anyone.

Congratulations!! I've heard that test is tough. But do you mean that you took Bio freshman or sophomore year, and then just retained enough information (plus a little help from the review book) to score a 3 on the AP exam? I'm not sure I can do that. And I might have to actually take a lab science this year in order to fulfill all the course requirements of certain colleges. So that'd leave me with either Marine Bio (no, no, please no - it's full of seniors who are still stuck in Geometry); AP Bio, which I'm not sure I can handle; or Physics, which I know I cannot handle, seeing as I break out into hives anytime someone so much as mentions the phrase "mathematical equation ( ... )

I say go for the journalism, but please make a plea as your last undying wish (well, graduating wish) that someone change the name of the school paper, or whoever named it be shot.

Have fun shopping, and squeal a bit if you see anything frilly for the annoyance of said being of the male species, aka your dad.

I'm going to investigate this whole course requirement thing, and if I'm able, I'll definitely be jumping at the chance to write for another period of the day. And I will request that the asinine name be changed as my graduating wish, but fear it will not. Sigh. Such is life.
I did have loads of fun shopping, although I felt a bit sorry for my dad, who insisted upon carrying every bag of clothing I purchased (those things weighed a ton by the time I was through), and stood around reading the paper for hours while I tried on outfit after outfit. I felt a bit guilty, but he did insist, so...

I know you're homeschooled, but when do you start school again? Or perhaps you school all year round, with set vacation time, like some kids do? I don't know much about home-schooling, but I' very interested.

You could always slip some sort of audacious editorial into the paper, "Why our newspaper name sucks: and other observations of a senior." I wonder what the world record is for fastest termination... hmm...
Wow... see, if I even suggested shopping most people would fall over they would either laugh so hard, or just have a heart attack that I would dare want to try anything on!
I've actually done school throughout the summer, well, tried too, did get a bit distracted with a few things and slacked off majorly around mid-july. I do try to do it all year round, and take weeks off when I get too stressed or around holidays when I get too busy. I think my only bad thing is sometimes I'll actually write instead of doing work, that's gotten me into trouble before... but hey, it was fun! Feel free to ask questions if you want too, I'm always up for questions.
