Sorry to comment so late but I've been admiring your icons at ss and OWL tremendously. Also, I just got your friend request so thank you very much!
All of these are lovely but I particularly like your 2nd/3rd place winners for the "Downtown" Challenge with their monochromatic palettes, the way you deconstructed the lyrics (particularly chilling with the Willow in TR one), the translucent text in the Willow one and however did you tilt the lettering in the Buffy one?
But then there's Buffy and Spike, and Giles in the hush #266; and the one of Buffy comforting Dawn over Tara's body... such lovely subtle shadings; I adore how the figures melt into both the shadows and the light in each one of them.
I'm thrilled you like them and I hope to do another round-up post soon.
Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining things but I'll try: I use PS and with the free transform option in the edit menu I got the tilt effect, and lowered the opacity a bit (same for the Willow icon, lowered both opacity and fill options). To get the light/shadow effect I've added layers with white/dark blobs and played with blend modes. Hope this helps. :)
ETA: you added your icon from the last OWL challenge - I loved that one of Katherine/Elena and I don't watch TVD. I don't anything about it but that image of that woman's face is so powerful I want to watch it. Very well done!

I feel like I could go into PS with that explanation so - you're too modest about your ability to 'splain things
( ... )
Thanks again, your comment reminded me I had to update this post.
*blushes some more* That's Katherine, but it would work for Elena too as she spent some time with her humanity turned off. I keep up with TVD but right now my new favourite show is Sleepy Hollow, do you like it too?
The artwork on the right is by the awesome rua1412, she's a true artist with a very distinctive style in everything she does (icons, banners, wallpapers, blends, manips). And you may have guessed I'm a big JM fan, Spike will forever be my favourite role of his (same as my undying love for Btvs).
