at least I didn't give birth to a potato chip

I bought a lovely ivy plant named Gerald, and he now graces the hallway of my apartment.  I also want an herb garden something fierce.  Does this stem from the need to take care of something else besides my beloved cat?  I must be in one of those rare, transient (and, may I say, creepy) maternal stages of my life.
