I emailed the Director of the Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies, and found out what I'd have to do. Pick two graduate programs and from those two, pick classes to form my own Masters. but for real, i am sorry that art therapy is not working out for you... you are like me in that we dont want to move away to get our degrees... and i agree that vcu does suck... errr... like we get to take classes for FREE and they dont even have what we want.

i suggest that you attempt to meet with an advisor for the graduate school, maybe an advisor in the school of education. talk to them and see if you can build something similar to art therapy that will allow you to do something similar. figure out your options.
are you allowed to go with a master's of art and a master's of special education? or would that just make you a special education art teacher and not really an art therapist?
why don't you try to build your art therapy major via the route the director of interdisciplinary studies suggested, and then hope that you could get approved by the art therapy association? i mean, can you still do what you want to do without the art therapy association and the title of art therapist?
do the norfolk or DC universities offer distance learning? you could try to get your art therapy degree that way.
anyway, best option i can see is attempting to meet with an advisor and having an extended conversation about your options.
