Hey there Harry Potter fans who read my journal...I know you're out there...I just joined this community and I think you should too...it seems really cool...it's a sorting/rating community with great fun activities and such.

So go join sorting_elite and apply to join hogwarts_elite. Tell them xdreamsofdramax sent you. :)

Applying for communities is worthless. It proves the elitism and honestly... LJ communities are not really worth a whole hell of alot in the first place, wtf is the point of applying?

Because I enjoy them...I don't go out and apply for communities that don't do anything, becuase then it is pointless and it's just to be able to say oh look I got accepted...but if they have a purpose and actually do things with the community, they can be a lot of fun...the whole reason that communities with a theme have an application process like that is so that people who don't know enough about the themes and have no lives and go around trying to ruin communities don't get in because they won't spend the time on the application...

If it's not something you like, don't do it, but that doesn't mean you have to tell others that it's worthless because maybe to them it's not...

I should reevaluate my statment. Communities aren't worthless. But the application process is.

If I have to prove to you that I am worth something, then its not worth it to prove. It removes the benifit of the doubt given to people as a whole and often gives members an elitist mentality. Even if it doesn't doesn't... you apply... get in or what have you and then can be ousted just as easily. Its my similar gripe with frats. If you have to put up with shit in order to get in... its not worth it.

Now you're going at two groups that I'm in...and I think you know that as well...

As far as applying for communities, like I said, I don't go for ones where it is just like oh prove you are worth it. The application process for this particular community is a stamping process where you get stamped as a particular Harry Potter House based on your application. It's not about am I good enough, it's about which house are they going to put me in.

As far as fraternities, yes social fraternities that make you go through hell to get in and then really have no point are pretty pointless. But some pledging processes are not about putting up with shit. They are about learning about the fraternity and getting to know the Brothers. And in that case, that's not really stupid and it is worth it.
