I know, 2008 is already 41 days old, but better late than never. I decided to participate in the
2008_scrapbook activities and start one myself to remember this year.
Thus this entry will be supplemented time and again this year and hopefully will grow into somthing worth saving.
And here we go.
Books in 2008
Jan
Fabula by Christoph Marzi (what a great book!, 478pp.)
Feb
11 Tintentod by Cornelia Funke (so dark that you think it can't have a good end; 739pp.)
12 High Fidelity by Nick Hornby (great to read, transported the mood quite good; 315pp.)
19 The Prestige by Christopher J. Priest (Mindblowing! Just fantastic! very different from the movie, in some aspects even better; 360pp.)
23 Slam by Nick Hornby (very nice, fast to read, liked the Tony Hawk-Poster stories; 301pp.)
Mar
12 Wächter der Nacht by Sergei Lukjanenko (Wow, what a fantasy novel! Need to get the next part!; 542pp.)
27 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (What a book! It creates such an accurate picture of Nazi Germany that you get drawn into this world, and what a protagonist!; 550pp.)
31 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (not as funny as I thought; 228pp.)
Apr
04 The Book of Nod (Vampire sourcebook, but can be read as a novel, which I did. Very exiting, very mystical.; 134pp.)
28 The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde (it was a gift by S., witty and funny, but the characters don't differ from each other very much; 67pp.)
28 Maya oder Das Wunder des Lebens by Jostein Gaarder (a bit pertinacious to read, yet with a most interesting ending; 429pp.)
May
01 Ein Jahr in London by Anna Regeniter (entertaining and interesting, a good read; 192pp.)
02 Das Greifenopfer by Thomas Finn (already knew the plot from the Audio book, but reading was even better; 320pp.)
09 Das unendliche Licht by Thomas Finn (first I thought the book was just a mixture of "Pirates", "Harry Potter" and "LOTR", but it has its very own charm; 446pp.)
14 Abbitte by Ian McEwan (what a great book, not easy to read, but very rewarding and unbelievable sad; 544pp.)
June
01 Der eisige Schatten by Thomas Finn (thrilling, but a bit too much action and too little book; 506pp.)
18 Der letzte Steinmagier by James A. Sullivan (read it with an online "Leserunde", interesting Eastern fantasy setting, exciting plot, happy ending; 604pp,
read my review)
19 Die letzte Flamme by Thomas Finn (last part of the trilogy, good popcorn fantasy, nice story, but a bit too much of everything; 475pp.)
28 Sepulchre by Kate Moose (a (too?) long book with two endings (one sad, one happy), wonderful descriptions, rich in detail, creative story, horrible antagonist...you see, a very long book; 544pp.)
July
03 Lycidas by Christoph Marzi (a re-read, still a great book, but in some passages it drags on forever, nevertheless one of my favourites of the last years; 861pp.)
04 Nimmermehr by Christoph Marzi (a collection of short-stories; the last one is the most wonderful one, it tells that love and stories are mightier than death, great book, great imagination, great author, who should not stop to write, niemals, nimmer, nimmermehr; 399pp.)
09 Lilith by Christoph Marzi (part two of "Die uralte Metropole", even better than Lycidas; 687pp.)
29 Das Obsidianherz by Ju Honisch (read in an online "Leserunde",
read my review , 807pp.)
Aug
11 Lumen by Christoph Marzi (third part of "Die uralte Metropole", just wonderful and fantastic; 798pp.)
26 Hectors Reise by Francois Lelord (always thought this book only could be shallow, but it actually was a great read!; 192pp.)
Sep
03 Homo Faber by Max Frisch (in my third try I finally finished this excellent book, it is so tragic and sad; 237pp.)
05 Der fünfte Elefant by Terry Pratchett (my first Diskworld novel for some time, good mixture of fun and seriousness, a bit too long in places; 415pp.)
11 The curious incident of the dog in the night time by Mark Haddon (a re-read, a fantastic book with the most interesting protagonist; 224pp.)
18 Ich bin dann mal weg by Hape Kerkeling (Kerkeling walks the Camino de Santiago and writes about his experiences and meetings, a good read, funny and non-pathetic; 320 pp.)
23 Malfuria by Christoph Marzi (another great read by Marzi with very innovative ideas and great hereos and villains, first of a trilogy, I'm really looking forward to reading the following books; 323pp.)
Oct
02 A long way down by Nick Hornby (Four suicidals at New Year's Eve on top of a building and their long way back to life, very interesting protagonists, but the ending was a bit thin, not very convincing, but maybe realistic, I didn't know; 400 pp.)
Nov
11 Neu Vahr Süd by Sven Regener (Just great!; 550pp.)
15 Wächter des Tages by Sergej Lukianenko (the second installment of the Night Watch Tetralogy, telling events from the darks' perspective, very enjoyable and exciting; 550pp.)
Dec
02 Wächter des Zwielichts by Sergej Lukianenko (the third part of the tetralogy, which is getting better all the time; 500pp.)
09 Herr Lehman by Sven Regener (third part of the trilogy, haven't read the second yet, a great book with a very human protagonist. A bit sad, but still hopeful; 284pp.)
26 Herr der Diebe by Cornelia Funke (a children's book, a bit slow to begin with, but very exciting later on; 391 pp.)

20 after finishing "The Prestige": Rodrick von Götz, a stage magician.
--> Since there's real magic in Aventuria, the stage magician idea was a bit tricky to realise. Thus I chose a gambler with faint magical skills. He will do "tricks" and support them with some magical levitation, mind reading, lock opening and walking on walls.
Maybe I will chose to start with another profession, have to rethink it.
Apr
15/16 Diago Montérez, a bodyguard or Ensign from Al'Anfa fallen from grace, now alcoholic and chased
--> character was built to fit a character sketch I was given as a present
Jun
16-19 Sulvio de Punin, a Priest of Rahja, the goddess of love, wine, horses, physical desires... ;-)
--> someone for the Cavalier of my co-player to watch over. He is very pretty, but I have to work on his portrayal in oder to not play him too feminine
