Hmm, I know I'm generally far more open about myself here on my LiveJournal then I ever am on my FB or MySpace or other such places. Part of that reason is because I don't have the mindless masses that I have to deal with from day to day. Of course there are certain things that I don't mind posting onto such sites, but other things that are more... well, some might call it "woo-woo" in nature? Those stay on here.

Because I really don't care to explain to people why I sound like an absolute crackpot just because they don't believe in the same things I do.

::hugs:: You'll always have friends on here, Xeans. At least as long as LJ or the internet lasts, whichever one is done away with first, lol.

*hugs*

Thanks ^..^
Yeah I can be open about the more odd parts of myself on LJ, which is nice if just to have a place to talk about it.

I find facebook to generally be a bunch of nothing. The whole thing seems more a big popularity contest with people just spitting drivel. LJ at least tends to have content to some extent. Then, the anonymity thing plays some role for me. Heck, my whole friggin' family is on facebook. They drive me nuts enough - why would I want to have that online, too?! ;-)

That's true. And lj is a little more under the radar in terms of venues checked by employers and prospective employers in an age where you can be fired for your opinions. Anything I don't want out to family I just friend lock because none of them have lj.

mmm, good point, barely anyone seems to even know LJ exists, which is nice in it's own way.

Facebook is a nice idea, but it's mostly a slew of invites to play farmville, which is just slightly more enjoyable then a root canal.

I think the same layer of separation that leads to the Greater Internet F*ckwad Theory can also be productive; here, as you have said, that layer of anonymity lets you (and others, myself included) be more open in sharing about yourself. Being able to freely talk about our triumphs and tragedies, our beliefs and dreams, is something good for everyone.
