Well put and agreed, overall... But there is a tinge of determinism in my belief system. As I progressed in life, I continually steered towards a career in a particular field. Whenever I'd do this, I'd face ever increasing difficulty. At various times I turned to my present field, and have found it much easier

Indeed - but they've worked out in a most curious way. Many years ago when I diverged from the career I wanted, I was sure I'd regret such for life. It's been odd that I've found new success and joys in what's become my career.
