You know...

I'm not sure why but I kind of enjoy the feeling of being sleepy. The kind of fuzzy half-awake feeling you get about half an hour before you go to bed ( Read more... )

That "kind of fuzzy half-awake feeling" is what I get most mornings until I lace myself up with a bunch of coffee. ;-)

Glad that classes are going well. The key to calculus, for me, was working tons of problems. I found that 1950's - 1960's calculus books (found at the library) tended to offer better problems and often clearer step-by-step examples than modern books. Of course, they tend to be written in a more "hardcore" math way.

Yeah, for the most part my calc professor seems to get that so the body of the classes are practice, practice and some more practice during the off-days with the TA.
I might try and pull some old books though, I understand things better if you give me the steps. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problemo. Calculus was always a hard thing for me (I had to retake Calc I many, many times), but I eventually conquered the whole Calc I through III dragon so it's more a friend these days. :-)

Calc was a really weird thing for me... I'd always been a math geek in school (Trig in 7th, and up from there) but when I got to Calculus it was like hitting a brick wall. I just couldn't get the concepts. Sure, given enough time, I could eventually complete the exercises and arrive at the correct answer, but I didn't know why. Then, one day, something just clicked and it's like a light went on. All the random bits neatly fell into place. I stayed late and furiously hammered out several more problems to make it stick. From that point on, it was a breeze.

So maybe that's what you need; here's hoping that moment of clarity comes that makes it all fall into place for ya! /^|..|^\

I understand the feeling perfectly!
Like, I'm good with maths that deal with concrete concepts because, for me, math always reflects some sort of real-life situation or something demonstrable. Calc is just kind of off in an odd land of doing abstract things with numbers to get more numbers in the end.

But, I'm keeping at it. Some of it comes after a LOT of practice with it, but I'm yet to hit the Eureka moment.
