nah, competition is necessary. i know it sounds great that we should all work together in peace and harmony, but in reality, things don't get done unless there's a serious incentive to get them done. competition is that incentive. it's why evolution works, it's why capitalism works (and i do believe capitalism works, maybe not perfectly, but better than anything else we've got).
not to say that my dreams and ways fail - they do work at times - so i'm inclined to stick by my 'guns' and go with it - even if at times it doesn't work. sure not everything will work - but since some do - that's enough reason for me to stick with things and see which turn out - those that don't - then i fall back on 'reality' :)
the greatest flaw in sticking to what works is we deprive ourselves of the very competition we claim about - you just said that competition works because it's an incentive - well, have you realised that another alternative is also a competition to competition? :) nothing is that great that it too won't be a victim to that which it prides itself on ;)
