Man, this is all so interesting. Glad I decided to hop on ol' LJ today. Quick question: How exactly did this opportunity come about? I'm sure it was in conjunction with the med school somehow, but I'm just curious.

Dean Parmelee is really well connected in the middle east, and has been working on an exchange with Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Oman for the last couple of years. Four of us went this year, three last year; one of their students has come to us, more are on the way.

As for Dubai and Jordan, I'm couchsurfing and being as cheap as possible, and basically being a tourist. Here in Jordan, I'll be in the city of Irbid for about five days as my almost-business here visiting medical students. Irbid has the Jordan University of Science and Technology (some great engineering/science programs), so I'll be there. But from June 30-July 16 in Jordan, five days is a significant but still minor part of the trip. Flights regionally aren't too expensive, so I was able to get here from Oman without breaking the bank.
