It’s been a bloody long time since I wrote anything here. But I think I’ll join in with this end of review meme that’s going about like the clap.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Erm, which I haven’t done before? I guess I’d have to mention that we now have pet rats. Lame answer I know, but it’s the only thing that I can think of that is especially new this year.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year’s resolution was to carry on living up in Aberdeen happily with Robyn. Which I must say, I have been very successful with. We’ve never been happier, odd considering that I’ve now been unemployed for almost 4 months.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Our big squish rattie Austin, who was claimed this year by the dreaded big C. Also Robyn's little doggie back at home, Frazzie, also passed away this year. They are both missed dreadfully.
5. What countries did you visit?
We took a trip down to England once or twice.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A bloody job once again. The economy has been dire up here, with jobs only available for people with degrees in engineering or willing to go work out on the rigs for 3 months at a time.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
6th of Feb, when I took Robyn away for a romantic weekend down to Edinburgh. Such a fantastic weekend, even if Robyn did have to go and tear all the ligaments in her knee a week before.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Managing to go a whole year without any financial support from my parents. Proving that I can make it in the world by myself, even in some awful circumstances.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Easy one this, losing my job at comcabs. My own stupid fault really, I booked a series of holidays at the same time, but apparently they weren’t all accepted. I only checked if the first one had and just assumed all the other ones had.
Needless to say, the company weren’t impressed when I vanished for 2 weeks without informing anyone. Whoops!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I didn’t personally. I’ve been pretty good health wise.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The ratties!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Robyn
She has been absolutely amazing, as I mentioned before, I’ve been unemployed for the past 4 months, and all this time she’s stuck beside me. She’s had every right to think that the stress is just too much and leave. We’ve been living on absolute pittance, in sub zero temps without the heating on. Pretty much every Dickensian cliché that you could conceive. But she’s stuck by my side the whole time, supporting me whenever I think I can’t take any more.
It’s at times like these, I really realise just how damn lucky I am to have her, she’s my world and I love her to bits.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one that any of you guys would know. He used to go to college with Robyn in Derby, and then went on to study computing in Nottingham. Anyway, one day we get a message off him, telling us that he’s run away from his parents and is living rent free with no money off a bunch of his WoW-friends in Newcastle. His parents really want him to come home, but he’s doing absolutely nothing to change his circumstances.
14. Where did most of your money go?
I wish I knew. =P
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Stupidly, going to the midnight launch of the WoW expansion with Robyn. Yeah, how lame is that? xD
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Rule the world - Take that
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? - Happier
ii. richer or poorer? - MUCH poorer right now.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Work, so I’d still have a job.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Nothing really, no point in having regrets. What’s done is done.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it up here with Robyn and the Ratties.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
More and more every single day. :3
23. How many one-night stands?
None ^_^
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Any absolute trash TV. The highlights being - X factor, Don’t tell the bride, Last Man Standing... pretty much the back catalogue of ITV2 and BBC3. Also a special mention for late night viewings of The L word with Robyn.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah, if anything. I’ve mellowed even further now, I have no ill feelings towards anyone. Unless it’s a spur of the moment type of thing, you know what I mean, when you’re in the queue for the checkout and some grumpy old git hits you in the back with their trolly just because they can’t wait an extra 30 seconds to put their items on the conveyor belt... the swines.
26. What was the best book you read?
Hmmm, too many to pick from. I’ve been continuing to catch up with the classics so to speak. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, John Buchan, Sir Walter Scott. Things like that.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Strangely discovering that I really like Take That! I absolutely love the circus album. Strange to think that this time two years ago I’d love nothing more than going to Jilleys and enjoying a good bit of metal.
28. What did you want and get?
Blissful times with the other half. :3
29. What did you want and not get?
A new job by the end of the year.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Ratatouille or Hairspray.
30a. What was your favourite theatrical production of this year?
The tempest with Peter Postlethwaite, it was amazing to be literally feet away from such a legend. :3
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Well, the day before I found out that I had just been fired. But we went out for a drink or two none the less. I turned 25
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing without sounding like a broken record.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Jeans and a tee-shirt, another year where this style has yet to fail me. That and my hair is still growing, with it now being about 18 months since my last haircut.
34. What kept you sane?
Robyn.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Personally, none. But I’ll answer this question for Robyn instead. Every Saturday, I was forced to sit in front of the TV while Robyn drooled over X-factor contestant Diana Vickers week after week.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Sarah Palin. The best thing to happen to politics in years.
37. Who did you miss?
The Manchester bunch. If you’re reading this, then probably you as well. Financial circumstances meant that I couldn’t attend any of the cons this year, which was a darn shame. I’ve still not been able to find any other people up here that I got on as well with as I did you guys.
38. Who was the best new person(s) you met?
Didn’t really meet anyone new this year.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Hold on to those who are precious to you, and you’ll find that they hold back just as hard when you need them to.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Mishearing Girls Aloud:
“I don’t speak ‘fresh’
So I let the funky music do the talking.”
I hope everyone is doing well though! Alhough I may not post that often, I have been reading everyone elses LJ's on an almost daily basis.
Take care all, and have a good new years eve. ^_^
