[At the end of the school day, Fenimore attempts to leave as soon as she can. She's already made plans for today with Stella, her unofficial mentor in being a Ferines having her particular gifts from Sona. But she has some time before she actually meets up -- she just wants to have an excuse to get out of the building as soon as she can. Anyone

[Stella had been waiting patiently at home, reading a rather large book that she'd been meaning to catch up on, a classical adventure that she'd picked up at the library a while ago. She's about halfway through and several pages past where she read last when she hears the knock on her door, and she places a bookmark in her place before she sets it down and head to the door. Upon opening it, she smiles once she sees that it's exactly who she's expecting.]

Fenimore! You're just in time. [Only not, but what's a few minutes? Stella walks outside and shuts the door behind her - hopefully the rest of her family won't worry about where she's gone off to.]

Are you ready to go?

[She nods.] Uh-huh! I got everything. [She tugs at the bag on her back, the contents of which will be updated as I realize what Fenimore would want to have around for the lesson but for now at least contains her journal in case her parents call for her.]

[Hopefully there's some food in there, since practice might take a while. Stella can hold off on that until it's over, but Fenimore's a kid!]

Good! Then let's head to the river.

[With that, Stella leads the way on the path towards the closest bridge. The river is a step up from the lake - an actual moving body of water!]

[Fenimore would definitely not mind carrying snacks with her around. Though she'll definitely want to leave the bag to one side when they're actually swimming.]

[Oh, is that little girl playing hopscotch? It looks like so much fun! Maybe she could join in!]

[Oh, hey, it's that nice lady she's seen around! But she finishes cycling through the rest of that particular hopping round before she stops to address her.]

[Grune, having waited patiently for the little girl to finish, now steps forward.] That looks like so much fun!

[As it would happen, that bridge is quite close to where Brook lives with Hughes. It's part of his regular route when he goes out on his afternoon walks, as a matter of fact.]

Yohohoho! Was that you making such a splash, Fenimore-chan?

I wondered what the hold-up was! It's been doing that lately.

[She looks up at him with a smile.] Great-grandpa!

Uh-huh, I was skipping rocks!

Ah, were you now? [He comes over to stand beside her and glances at the water, stroking his jaw bone.] Odd. For some reason I'd thought that that involved skimming the rocks over the water, not into it.

It has not been exactly the most stable thing lately.

[This is not a pout.] I got it to work the other day! [Translation: one rock skipped once.] The river's really hard to skip on. [Translation: two rocks skipped once at the lake.]

[Sup, little baby girl! Suki is in Kyoshi gear today, and she happens to catch Fenimore during her "training". She can't help but ninja over behind a tree to watch while Fen goes through the moves. She's such a proud mom, she doesn't want to interrupt. She may be taking notes]

[Suki is much more of a ninja than Fenimore, so she escapes unnoticed as Fenimore faces down another imaginary enemy. Her footing is initially quite good and she actually does go through what she was actually taught, getting a little off as she continues -- a mistep here, maybe forgetting to keep an arm positioned right there, but overall doing not too badly. However, partway through, with a "hyaaah!", she attempts to emulate something rather too advanced that she probably saw Suki doing sometime. It...might be recognizeable, but that's about all that can be said for her attempt and she kind of falls completely out of form.

She doesn't seem to have noticed the issue, though, since she takes the moment to tell her imaginary foe:] I bet...I bet you'll think twice about fighting me again!

[Suki waits until her "foe" is defeated, stepping out from behind the tree and into view so Fenimore can see her. She doesn't want to startle the poor girl.]

That looked like a good workout, Fen!

[The effort means that she's only a little surprised rather than startled, and the surprised expression quickly fades to a smile.]

Mom! Hi! [Her expression further changes as she looks off to the side for a moment -- it had kind of been more playing than a real workout.... But maybe it's okay, since she had done some of the things she had been taught. Maybe that's close enough to practice that she can pretend that was the goal. Confidence regained, she returns to making eye contact.]

Uh-huh! I was practicing. [She tilts her head slightly as she realizes how Suki's dressed.] Are you going to train?

[Guess what, this guy is also ninjaing on her "training" against the enemies. Except he's not as ninja as Suki so it's more like lurking from a nearby bench and watching this]

[Strike strike strike! Only against the air, so more "whoosh whoosh whoosh."] Take that! [And here she attempts something way beyond her current ability that ends with her dropping one stick. After an embarrassed pause, she stoops to pick it back up.] That was just -- [And straightening, she realizes someone (Masaomi) was watching. She startles.] Eep!
