Okay, so the hard plastic DDR mat I've been using has decided to break. The top arrow button doesn't work - it seems to be sticking or something

I know wiring, but I am unfamiliar with the DDR mats. I’ve used them, and know the concept, but the repair may be.... difficult at best. The mats are sewn together, aren’t they? So if the repair goes beyond the plastic control panel at the top, wouldn’t we have to cut into the mat?
I would be happy to take a look at it for you, but I cannot guarantee a successful repair. I would just have to spend some time with it and see.
If we could find a schematic online of a breakdown of where the wires are and how they run through the map, it should be rather easy I would assume.

Well, it's hard plastic (not soft plastic or foam), so I think it would just take unscrewing at the corners to open. The insides might be very similar to a soft plastic DDR mat, though. I'm really not sure! I don't crack things open too much.
I figure taking a look at it couldn't hurt. I mean, it's already broken. :P
They're not too hard to fix...if you can find someone willing.
What metal pad did you buy? Most of them are crappy, but still generally superior overall since you can (and should) wear shoes on them without breaking them.
It's just some generic metal pad we found. It was like $139 including shipping, so I doubt it'd be that awesome. Still, it's better than using the slip-n-slide foam or soft plastic pads.
I'm looking into getting sport sandals for it, since my feet are long and narrow and normal shoes give me blisters if I use them too much. I've gone shoe shopping for days and not found a pair that fit me right. +_+ Insoles help, but they tend to make me overheated when working out, because there's very little breathing room.
I've long since developed calluses on my feet for that. Some of the same ones I get from martial arts are useful for DDR. But I know what you mean. One's feet can get pretty icky after doing it for a while.
