2009 Reading List, Book #16: The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger

1. I have my interview with the US Consulate in Montreal scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23. The purpose of the interview is to determine whether or not Darrin and I have a bona fide marriage. 2009 Reading List, Book #15: Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
I can't believe I have only read 15 books this year. How embarassing.
To be fair, I got into a trap with GE that sometimes happens -- I read before I go to bed, and therefore end up reading only 5 pages at a time, and with a book like this you have to back up and re-read when that happens. Also I had to check it out of the library on 3 separate ( Read more... ) -

Let me say first off that this is the first book I've read this year that I felt I really needed to read over again before I can do it any justice in a review. I haven't had the best track record for holding onto friendships, much to my chagrin. But I'm sure glad I've held onto this one.

Weirdest summer ever. I can't ever in my life remember a summer with temperatures this low. Darrin was so concerned to get a second window A/C unit for the apartment so we could work at our desks in the living room. Last year I was constantly retreating to the bedroom to work as it was the only room with an A/C unit. Now the A/C is hardly even ( Read more... ) -

I also checked out a book about the Minoans, but it is published by Routledge (quotation from my former advisor: "Routledge will publish anything") and does not have any footnotes.
