Nice posting. So many "explanations" of Rome try to focus on a sort of magic bullet theory that explains everything through one small factor, when it really was a combination. You make your point well, though I would've liked it if you HAD thrown in "PWND BITCHES! FIRST POST!"

Random thoughts:

Arminius pwn3d Rome.
Road building helped mobility on a large scale.
Roman military medicine was pretty damn good.

True enough, but I was responding to a question about Republican Rome. Arminius didn't show up until the days of the Empire.
