Sam put down his beer and sighed. They always did this. Dean had snuck off to go have sex with one of the many drunken women that have been hitting on him all night. And Castiel, the drunker he got, the harder it was to keep track of him. He’s been darting around the bar all night, and even slipping out going God knows where. Ignoring the feeling of self pity that started to crawl up through his chest, he turned towards the stage, preparing to laugh at whoever was next in line to embarrass themselves. He just about choked on his beer when he saw a dirty brown trench coat stepping behind the microphone. Before he could get up to drag the drunken angel off the stage, or even text Dean to get him out of the ladies bathroom to witness this, the song started.

By the rivers of Babylon
Where we sat down
Ye-ah we wept
When we remembered Zion

Castiel’s voice wasn’t bad, per se, but it wasn’t good either. He didn’t sound like Tom Waits with a tracheotomy or Leonard Cohen with a sinus infection. But his voice was deep, rumbling and just a tiny hint of monotone.

When the wicked carried us away
In captivity, required from us a song
Now how shall we sing the Lord’s song
In a strange land

Sam couldn’t help the tiny laugh that escaped him. It might be sacrilegious to laugh at an angel of the Lord singing a hymn, but it’s Boney M, and he just can’t help it.

The audience clapped politely when the song finished. Castiel was beaming as he hopped off the stage and headed towards Sam. Sam bit back his laughter as he approached.

“That was quite refreshing,” Castiel said as he drank the bottle of beer in one fluid motion. “It has been so long since I’ve sung a song of the Lord.”

“Song of the Lord or not, that was disco,” Sam said, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice. “It’s a good thing that Dean isn’t around, or he’d disown you.”

Castiel looked at Sam with his head tilted.

“Was what I sang not satisfactory?” His voice had a small tinge of hurt in it.

“No, you did it right,” Sam said quickly. “You chose a song that you felt, it has meaning to you. So, disco or not, it was good.”

Sam must be getting better at reading Castiel’s almost non-existent facial expressions, because it looked like Castiel just got the greatest idea ever. Which may or may not be a good thing. He flitted away, the sound of wings almost audible above the two very drunk girls singing Bad Romance. Sam scanned the bar for the angel, and spotted him talking to the deejay.

Sam politely clapped for the Gaga wannabes, but kept his eyes on Castiel as he made his way back to the microphone.

“Why in the hell did you let him get up there?” Dean asked as he wiped a bit of smudged lipstick off the corner of his mouth. At least his shirt was buttoned properly.

“This is round two,” Sam said, finishing his beer.

“You’re never babysitting the drunk angel again,” Dean said as he signaled the waitress for another round.

The music started and Sam knew he recognized it, but he could name the song. Castiel took the microphone off the stand and began singing.

Tonight it's very clear
As we're both lying here
There's so many things I want to say
I will always love you
I would never leave you alone

Dean spewed his beer as he realized what song Castiel was singing. Dean quickly pulled out his cell phone and found the video recorder function.

“The hell is that lunatic doing?” Dean asked as they both watched Castiel jump down from the stage and weave his way through the crowd, still singing.

Sometimes I just forget
Say things I might regret
It breaks my heart to see you crying
I don't wanna lose you
I could never make it alone

Castiel stood in front of Sam and took his hand. He stared right at Sam as he continued to sing.

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I'll be the hero you're dreaming of
We'll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

Sam sat there, jaw dropped not believing what was happening. Dean was still recording it, just as shocked as Sam. Castiel leaned down and gave Sam a very chaste kiss. Sam didn’t move. How do you react when an angel declares his love for you in a room full of people using a Peter Cetera song?

Castiel kept holding Sam’s hand as he finished the song, while Sam shifted uncomfortably in his seat. All eyes in the bar were on them, and he could feel heat creeping up his neck and into his face.

Like a knight in shining armor
From a long time ago
Just in time, I will save the day
Take you to my castle far away

Castiel dropped the microphone and sat on Sam’s lap.

“How do you feel?” Castiel asked. And Sam wasn’t sure. He liked the angel well enough, but love?

“I know you don’t love me,” Castiel whispered. “But I would like to see if you could.”

Sam’s only response to that was a kiss.

“You two have seriously ruined Karate Kid Part 2 for me,” Dean grumbled a split second before the audience applauded.
