That's really interesting. I should send my husband the link.

There are other interesting studies like this and I wish I could tell you where. We studied this in some of my linguistics courses, probably contrastive analysis b/c the myth that women talk so much more than men still carries a lot of weight.

Yeah, I know. I hear it all the time. Then I get to talking to my (male) boss, and wonder what the hell they're talking about.

I think the motive behind talk is interesting. You'd think communication, but just what is it that is communicated? Ideas, feelings? Loneliness, boredom, the need to self-assert, the need to blend in. Truth and lies.

I would say something like "Women talk to develop intimacy and men talk to exert control" but last night Meshaal called me on my tendency to overgeneralize about men. So, I won't say all that.

But it was definitely my head's first reaction. :/

Haha, I hate talking. My husband thinks out loud a lot which drives me NUTS.

And when we get into disagreements I like to cool off for a short time so I could think of a solution, which drives HIM nuts because he HAS to talk everything out and he doesn't understand my need for quiet time. He thinks I just want to deliberately ignore him, but it's not true, it has nothing to do with him and all to do with my need to think before I open my mouth.
