So, uh, that was a premiere, I guess

I'm posting this here because it's my sandbox, and rather than go into other people's sandboxes and kick sand in their faces, I'll do it in my own sandbox. Ya'll, that Hannibal premiere? I'm underwhelmed. No, scratch that, I'm pissed.

I have mixed feelings. Loved seeing Dr. Gizzard on screen again, although I can't grock whatever the crap they're trying to say with the snails. Which, according to the LiveTweets, are going to be a theme this season? Snails? It felt a bit fanservicey, which is fun to watch on some level, especially if you're on the LiveTweet feed, but you're right--nothing really happened.

I feel like the story won't truly start until Will Graham and Company are back. I thought maybe they were trying to extend the suspense as to whether they were even alive still, but one promo effectively killed said suspense, because, well, there they are. Alive and having new scenes. So.

We need a pile of puppies to drown our sorrows in, I think.

Going in I KNEW it was going to be Hannibal and Bedelia traipse across Europe, so I wasn't exactly enthralled by the idea to begin with. Then Fuller went to say that the first episode studied the relationship between the two as it's existed over the years, and THAT caught my interest. But, as I've said, what we saw was all the shit we could've (and have) gleaned before. I didn't feel like we got a view of their relationship that seemed promised to us.

After 377 days, this wasn't the premiere to make me go, "God, show, I've missed you!" It looks like I'm in the minority, though, because lots of people seemed to like it. *shrugs*

although I can't grock whatever the crap they're trying to say with the snailsThey're slimy and slippery like Hannibal? Or do you mean what Hannibal was doing with the snails and Gideon's arm? He was using Gideon's arm to make the snails taste better because (I guess) whatever we eat or come in contact with changes the taste of our meat ( ... )

With all the talk about Hannibal, and cannibalism, and food not knowing it's being eaten--basically whatever was going on in the scenes between Hannibal and Gideon (I've kinda forgot the specifics)--if the series doesn't end with Will eating Hannibal, I will buy a fucking Carmen Sandiego Hat and eat it.

Oh, I hope not. I really hope not. Because then Hannibal would still be winning. Just, no.

All seriousness aside, I'm so please we both made Carmen Sandiego hat references. :D

All in all, though I missed Will and co. very much, I still ended up enjoying this episode. Still, I'm waiting for a purpose behind the flashbacks to Dr. Gideon, beside LOL ISN'T HANNIBAL JUST SO EVIL?

Look, I don't want Will eating Hannibal either. The conversation felt very heavy-handed and it sounded like it's leading up to either Hannibal eating Will (which, no) or Will eating Hannibal (not my ideal way to go about things; but at least Will lives and Hannibal gets what's coming to him).

Still, I'm waiting for a purpose behind the flashbacks to Dr. Gideon, beside LOL ISN'T HANNIBAL JUST SO EVIL?

IDK. Apparently snails are a big theme this year. . . which, okay. I felt like Dr. Gideon was there to offer snarky commentary and point out how much Hannibal misses Will. All that stuff could've been shown to us in the regular plot, versus using flashbacks.

Eh, I kinda get the feeling Fuller likes certain actors--Eddie Izzard, Gillian Anderson, Raul Esperaza--that he continually wants to use their characters, even if their characters have gone past their expiration date. Dr. Gideon's reappearance felt very fanservice-y to me, and I found his parts dull.

Yeah, I think I would've preferred fewer flashbacks. Kinda laughing at the thought of anybody needing a reminder that Hannibal misses Will. EVERYBODY knows Will is an absolute treasure. (Well, Alana forgot for a while.)
