aristotle believed that tragedy should be serious, complete and of significant magnitude - meaning that it should produce catharsis, it should have a beginning, middle and end, and that it should be of significant length.

by saying that something can be whole and not have magnitude, all you are really saying is that it has a beginning middle and end but it is rather short. this is true of comedies; comedies are rather short but they have a full story line, while greek tragedies are rather long and also have a story line.
