Subjects are boring...

In honor of a gent I know who has a birthday today, I'd like to open the floor to discussion. I'm looking for a new handgun with, of all things, a silencer. Yes, there is a reason I'd like to make such a purchase. No, it has nothing to do with illegal activity in any fashion ( Read more... )

My friends really liked the gas compensated Glocks. The best shot out of the group got annoyed because he had to keep replacing his targets. He was blowing out the bull's eye! The downside is muzzle flash, but it kills a lot of recoil so it is accurate, and comfortable.

As for silencers Glocks are supposed to be easy to do it to. I'm not sure how the compensator would interact with the silencer, but the website I found for silencers didn't say the compensated glocks wouldn't work.

Do you have a caliber you like? Comfy, with more power than a .22 sounds like a 9MM to me, but I thought I'd ask if you have a preference.

I was looking into the G34 or G35 myself, so we're on the same track :)

First, thank you for the birthday wish!

Second, the best way for you to begin is by finding a range that rents handguns. Test them out; a pistol in a lighter caliber that doesn't fit your hand will feel harsher than a pistol in a bigger caliber that fits your hand perfectly.

Getting a pistol that can be suppressed isn't an issue at all. Nearly any semi-auto can be set up to accept a screw-on muzzle can.

All that said, what's your purpose for the pistol? Target shooting? Self defense? Hunting?

Range already acquired. I typically won't buy something without giving it a test run first, which is how I picked up my .45 and 9mm the first time around. I'm partial to .4x caliber or so, which gives me a fairly wide range. The reason I'm not fond of the .22 is because it doesn't have hardly any kick, very little stopping power by comparison, and not nearly as much satisfaction on the target :)

The purpose behind the pistol is mostly non-comp target shooting and self defense (hence stopping power above). The suppressor is really for a change of pace. Firing the same thing over and over again gets repeatitive - I want a change up in experience here and there.

Any particular brands you or others are fond of?

P 145 Millennium. I personally think it is one of the most comfortable handguns out there. they also have an assortment of additions that can be added to them.
