If you have a Honda or a Toyota and are having these problems, I'm shocked. If you're driving any American car and having these problems, I'd say "well, duh."
Kelly and I have noticed and experienced over, and over, and over, and over that American cares are junk, and break all the time, while Toyotas keep going forever with minimal repairs. And you don't need a new one - get a used Camry, like Tom's, and it'll work fine.
hmmmm. fine then. Well, at 206k miles, it sounds like you are nearing the end of a car's life, and when things start failing, it's about time to retire the car.
But really, Tom bought an old Camry from misc.market for something like $1500, and it continues to work fine. It has a lot fewer miles than your car.

My coworker just bought a mazda3 hatchback and likes it a lot. It looks like a fun car to drive.
