This weekend I went over to visit my friends who have a 6 month old boy, Jak.  He, of course, is quite cute, but a good deal more mobile than Celerity.  I mentioned to his mother that Celerity could almost, but not quite, turn herself over.  She proceeded to grab her son by the feet and ROLL him back and forth across the floor (giggling the whole ( Read more... )

When I was born, conventional wisdom (now overturned) was that babies should be put to sleep on their stomachs. I hated lying on my stomach. The problem was that I was able to turn onto my back from my stomach the day I was born (highly unusual, I know), but then the nurses would feel obliged to turn me over onto my stomach, and I'd have to turn over onto my back again. After I dipped sufficiently far below my birth weight, the nurses were instructed to leave me on my back if I was that insistent, and I started gaining weight, after which I was discharged.

I don't immediately go and flip her back over, but it is a bit irritating that she used to lay there and "goo" contentedly, but now she flips herself over and gets mad.
