so i decided to take the bus down to DC this weekend. i mean, you can't beat $20 each way to DC. especially when in cash-conservation mode. and of course, as with any bus trip i take...
i was able to drag my ass out of bed by 7am and finished packing and showered and on the train before 8am. i had a few minutes to spare before boarding and bought a few things from starbucks for the ride.
a little while later...
we hit traffic on the NJ turnpike. traffic is at a standstill. the bus driver gets out and smokes a butt. a few moments later he pulls over to the side of the road and announces he's going to use the toilet. so he walks down the aisle and returns a few moments later. he grabs the microphone and walks to the middle of the bus, turns on the microphone, gives it a little *tap tap*.
"EXCUSE ME, MA'AM, IN THE BATHROOM. THE BATHROOM IS ONLY FOR URINATION. I REPEAT, IT IS ONLY FOR URINATION."
my mouth dropped wide open. all of the ladies around me shook their heads and muttered phrases of disbelief.
some minutes later, the woman exits the bathroom and expresses indignation about the lack of water on the bus and the horrific treatment she's received.
the bus driver, on a roll, continues with "well, there's no water on the bus because you're not supposed to *pause* on the bus."
i mean, is there a sign posted for this? i wasn't about to get up and go check, but damn...
pops picked me up from the bus stop and then i borrowed the car and went out to meet the lady of cake for our afternoon of beauty. we went to a hair salon located in a strip mall in VA. while i'm getting my manicure, the lady attempts some chit chat in broken english. i'm guessing she's spanish, but, that's just a guess. asks me where i'm from, blah blah. asks if the services are cheaper in VA than in NYC. i say, no, not really. there are places where you can get a decent mani/pedi for like $30.
she leans in a bit and asks...
"run by the asians?"
"a lot of places are, yeah"
"be careful, they have infection."
the rest of the weekend was wonderful. the weather was great and i spent a lot of time with my family and some time with lady cake. too bad i missed her cookieman.
