I love Africa research Scully. I don't think she is there in an official capacity. But then, I don't think the FBI would have funded Mulder's trip to Antarctica, yet that seems to be the case since it was apparently submitted as an expense report according to the chick from Alone. Yeah, you start to think about that and have a better understanding why the auditor was giving them such a hard time in Requiem ("Your partner was put up in a mental ward - which we paid for too - and you flew to New Mexico and then to AFRICA and then back on a same day flight and this was because you found a craft with the HUMAN GENOME and RELIGIOUS TEXTS on it that then vanished ( ... )

I think that's why she uses the machete (also because it's hot).

So true. :)

Scully-in-Africa is gorgeous to watch. I also love GA's performance in this ep, especially when she finally arrives at Mulder's bedside. She's clearly upset and worried about him, while still remaining determined, restrained, and strong. I like this Scully so much better than later on, when emotional outbursts take over.

Other thoughts:
- Skinner asks Mulder if he can write, which is silly since Mulder was obviously able to write "HELP ME" on the scrap of cloth.

- Mulder in hospital = ANGST-O-RAMA!

- I wonder what Mulder thinks of Fowley's confession: "Fox, I love you. I've loved you for so long." It's difficult to read the expression on his face as she leaves the room.

Fun Facts:
- A friendly neighbourhood entomologist rented out the 50,000 dead crickets that littered the floor during the sequences of Scully's bug attack.

- The spaceship in the water was computer-generated.

- Mimi Rogers, formerly married to Tom Cruise, appeared with David Duchovny in the pre-X-Files film The Rapture.

[Cont'd]:

"Given the very busy schedules of everyone involved in The X-Files, it did not come as a surprise that this all important two-part season opener was played out amid chaos. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's off-season film work had already forced The X-Files' production team to juggle the filming order, filming the third episode, 'Hunger,' first. Now, with the emphasis of 'Amor Fati' being on Mulder's psychological and emotional turmoil, it was hard to refuse when Duchovny offered his assistance in writing that all-important script. It was finally agreed that Duchovny would co-write 'Amor Fati' with Carter at the same time Carter was writing 'The Sixth Extinction ( ... )

YES! That's the Scully we know and love. Like I already said in the Biogenesis post, one of the main reasons why I really like this arc a lot is because Scully is so kick-ass in those episodes.

A friendly neighbourhood entomologist rented out the 50,000 dead crickets that littered the floor during the sequences of Scully's bug attack.
Eww.
But "entomologist" is one of those words that I learned from this show, haha. "Her name is Bambi?"

I love this quote that Scully says at some point (in a voice over I believe)"...the haunting illness which I saw consume your beautiful mind." Awwww ♥
Also, when Kritschgau told Skinner that Mulder asked him to do him a favour and now he has no job blah blah... um, wasn't it Kritschgau that went to Mulder for help and told him about all the propaganda?? :P

Also, on a sort of related note, now that I'm in Aussie land, I love how I'm one of the first people to comment! heeee

- I love African Scully so hard; there totally should've been an action figure. I love her ponytail and her white tank top and her MACHETE and her quiet brooding fury and just everything about her. ::draws hearts::
- Mulder attacks Skinner and passes him a secret message that says "HELP ME" in blood! ::cries::
- The scene with Mulder tapping the monitors when the spaceship appeared was fantastic. Talk about spooky, ha ha. I was also happy to see Kritschgau, because I liked him in the Redux trilogy.
- In this scene I'm always like, Fowley, get away from That Area! :P ( ... )

When Scully goes to see Mulder, it's so sad and beautifully acted, and all I can think about is that Mulder can READ HER MIND while she's standing there holding his hand and crying.
I loooove that scene. So gorgeous.
And while it would've been nice to hear Scully say the three words, she doesn't really need to. We see how much she loves him, and he can hear it in his mind. I guess. Aww.
