Mah lovah is like 7 months pregnant or something and we were doin it 8 months ago.* Hmmm.....what could that possibly mean??? Math is hard.
I love you.

The title of this episode refers to the three words "Fight the Future".
...
Not "Don't Give Up"? Not "Who's the daddy"? Not "Shut Up Doggett"??? Not "Scully's a slut"??????? Damn I was WAY OFF!!!

"Who's the daddy"?

See, that and "Undead and Working" were always my guesses. What did I know?

LOL. This needs to be made into some sort of epic list.

What about "Maybe there's hope"? Or "Trust no one"? Or "Deceive, inveigle, obfuscate"?

Okay, I got nothin'.

(I remember right before this first aired, though; when people learned the title of the episode, everyone was speculating/hoping that the three words were "I love you". Ha!)

For some reason it cracked me up that Doggett referred to the White House fence jumper's disc as a "computer diskette". Kickin' it old school! I similarly think it's hilarious that Mulder discovered that the secret file on the guy's laptop took up the entire hard drive - a whole ten gigabytes! Okay, anyway. It drives me crazy when Scully tells Mulder that his brain disease is gone. Where's the deleted scene showing her ripping him a new one for keeping that a secret when they were first hooking up? Grr ( ... )

I totally noticed that as well! I was like "Uh, my iPod has 8x more storage than that thing!"

'The first scene at Mulder's apartment is so painful. I just want them to HUG! Scully is practically in tears, and I can understand that Mulder feels disoriented and awkward and out of place overall, but dude, when he says, "I don't know where I fit in,"

I actually wanted Scully to give Mulder a good shake at this point, since Scully-angst pretty much dominates this season Mulder's ego-centric PTSD just irritates me.... Give the oh-so-obviously mother of your child a hug man!

Awesome! I always enjoy your contributions.

In the second scene at Mulder's apartment, I find it kind of odd that this is the first time Mulder has heard of Doggett. So apparently he and Scully, up to this point, have not discussed his brain disease, her miracle baby, or anything having anything to do with work or what she's been up to for the last year. ::headdesk::.

*seconds the ::headdesk::*

Okaaay...Mulder has turned into an asshole. I really do not like his attitude here. I love how Scully accompanies him back to his apartment and in that scene he looks around as if he doesn't believe the things he sees there are his. It's as if he's forgotten not who he is but who he was; his attitude toward Scully feels so cold to me. And he still hasn't acknowledged the, forgive the metaphor, elephant in the room! YOUR LOVAH IS PREGGERS NOW! Hello, is it yours? Do you not wonder, Mulder??? It takes way, way too long for him to say anything about the baby ( ... )

Maybe Mulder comes off as such an ass in these later S8 episodes because David Duchovny was just being stubborn. :P

I am actually sympathetic to Mulder is this one *gasp* First time I saw it I was so angry and wanted to kill him. lol. But now I see where he's coming from.

The guy has been gone *forever* - I cant even say how long because of the screwed timeline, 3 years? :oP - and, for starters, he finds out he was buried alive, then he's going to be a father (cos I'm sure M&S talked about this in DeadAlive, how could they not? "Whoa Scully, did you get fat?" "I'm pregnant, Mulder" "Oh, ok then" *snore*) in like a month and to perhaps an elephant given the gestation period. Yes he seems ass-y and its SO AWKWARD, but I feel sorry for him. He's just so out of place and he wants to make sense of what happened to him and I just want to hug him.

I actually kind of want to slap Scully for so many reasons, but for generally just not getting Mulder. Oy. How long did she work with him?

I think she gets it, she just wants it to be different. She's spent the last however long looking for him, missing him, and mourning him and the second he's alive again he's risking prison and death for "the truth". Deep down she was probably hoping that death and impending fatherhood might temper his passion a little.

I get where he's coming from too and I think both reactions are authentic and justified. The awkwardness plays pretty well; things were still in a state of flux between them when he disappeared and now 6 months have passed and she's got a baby and a new partner and while he's out of a job, it's sort of like nothing has changed for him. I also think that each of their experiences while he was gone were so traumatic that they're not quite taking into account the other's trauma and how that's affecting their actions.

Oh I agree there, but that in itself makes me kind of want to slap her. LOL. I mean he obviously just has the news sprung on him, normally people have more time to adjust. I just think that if she expected him to be all "oh I'm going to be a dad, like tomorrow, no more alien chasing!" then she's expecting a bit much too soon.

Nothing has changed for him, he's come back to a world thats moved on and while I think both their reactions are valid in some way, I do feel like Scully needs to cut him a bit of slack. Just like anyone who is watching this ep and calls him an asshole and expects him to be all lovey with her. lol.

he obviously just has the news sprung on himSo did she. She certainly wasn't expecting to be pregnant, and she didn't really get time to process because she was looking for him after his stupid ass once again stuck his hand in something he shouldn't have. So while yes, she's had the past 6 months when he hasn't, it's not like he came home to an actual baby and she handed him some diapers and a bottle. He still has 3 months and she's simply asking that he not get himself killed or thrown in jail on a felony 12 hours after he's been released from the hospital, not that he give up his quest for the truth because she hasn't given it up either ( ... )

I'm not a big fan of either the hospital scene or the first scene in his apartment. I get that he's all messed up in the head from being dead and all, but if he doesn't know about Doggett, why the hell doesn't he know where he fits in? Stupid ( ... )

Mulder just jokes about it the rest of the season because he's...well, Mulder. We never hear him deny that he's the father, but we do see him bringing gifts, going to lamaze, belly touching, and telling Scully to 'tell the kid [he] went down swinging'.

I agree, maybe not on when they have the discussion (simply because I'm undecided on that) but he definitely never denies it, he lets Scully keep it as her business (in Existence he tells Skinner as much) but its obvious that he's playing daddy.
