This is actually one of my favorite episodes from Season 9... which is really sad, lol. I like the premise - people in comas are stuck in some kind of weird hospital dollhouse limbo controlled by this chick who, in the real world, just kind of fades into the background. I agree that the actress who plays Lucy Audrey is really good playing oddball characters. The actual scenes with Reyes in the dreamworld are kind of boring - she doesn't really DO much - but like I said, I like the premise, and I think the stuff going on at the real hospital is kind of interesting. Robert Patrick has another good performance here, especially when he's kneeling in front of the dollhouse with Audrey, doing something he KNOWS is insane and ridiculous, but he's so desperate that he'll try anything. The evil doctor who's purposely poisoning people reminds me of something... I want to say Sanguinarium off the top of my head, but I don't think that's it. (Maybe it's something from some other show/movie?) Anyway, I don't love this episode or anything, but I
( ... )
It's been a while since I saw this episode, but I think I didn't hate it. But I also don't hate Reyes, so yeah. Robert Patrick is great once again.
But I just can't buy Doggett and Reyes suddenly being head-over-heels in love. They've known each other for many years, so I totally buy that they're friends, good friends. But there's just no chemistry between them, all this flirting seems horribly forced.
I have to say I like this episode as well and I really can't pinpoint why. So, I am going to try and b.s. my way through a valid explanation and see if it sounds lovely.
I was a dripper. Well, as much as one could be. Like I have said before, it got Doggett away from Scully which I think is freaking fantastic. I also don't harbor a lot of hate for Reyes despite the whale songs-which are unforgivable I will say though that she does a lot of looking at the charts that she already knew was gibberish. I would like to say that is a combo of bad acting/directing but I really don't want to blame Kim Manners for anything since I sort of luff him.
No, really. I do like this episode overall. Mad props to Mark Snow again. The ending scene where Doggett drops Reyes off and looks at her like he wants to kiss her but then chickens out has some really great music. I was always hoping Mr. Snow would put it on a cd or something. And go go Dripperness.
I liked the Mark Snow stuff here as well. I notice through Season 9 he's kind of going into a new direction or something and there's some really good stuff in these episodes.
I have to admit, I half-like the Doggett/Reyes stuff too for the same reason :P ...to get rid of his crush on Scully.
I didnt watch this time - do I have to? - but I do remember not liking this episode. The only thing I liked about it were the visuals, the blue colouring and I dunno, crisp? feeling in Reyes' unconscious land. But dont really remember what it was about ...
I think Doggett and Reyes have always supposed to have had this flirty/connection/love thing, because they've known each other since forever (and I dont know why, but in my mind I always assumed he had an affair with her. Am I just trying to make them more interesting? LOL) but its pretty bad that we get actual (horrible) flirting and (spewy) cuteness from them. Its like an actual pre-relationship dance and all they let us have from M&S was ... nothing. A bunch of stuff that we can only interpret as perhaps flirting and maybe relationship beginnings. Very unfair. But also kind of ridiculous that they tried to make D&R cute and appealing by going in that direction.
I've clearly thought too much about this :oP
So there was a flying dollhouse? Now thats interesting. ;o)
I like your paragraph analyzing Doggett/Reyes. You're right, they WOULD be more interesting if they'd had an affair after Luke's case - when Doggett was still with his wife, but the marriage was falling apart in the aftermath of losing their son.
No you don't have to :) I don't always rewatch yours when I don't have time *is bad*
It is unfair that Doggett and Reyes get the more blatant stuff. But it sort of ends in this episode for the most part doesn't it? I don't remember anything more coming from it in later episodes, which is sad for the D/R fans.
I actually would rather keep the way M&S played out versus having blatant things like this. Subtlety with M&S worked perfectly, and I don't think it would have been as interesting if they did something like they did here with Doggett and Reyes. Plus the fact that Duchovny and Anderson had tooonnns more chemistry - it was natural.
I also remember liking this one, but that was when I was sorta into the Drippiness and I liked Reyes. What can I say, I was young! lol
Oh, side note, after watching this ep, I was scared to be an organ donor! Just saying.... lol. I still kinda am.
Anyone else find it kinda odd how quickly Scully gave up on Reyes and wanted to pull the plug?? Even if she's not a huge Reyes fan, she IS still a doctor...
And I love how quickly Scully comes up with how she would kill someone and make it look natural! LOL, noooo she's never thought about that before haha.
I agree, it was odd that Scully was ready to call it quits after like ten minutes at the hospital. Considering that her partner RETURNED FROM THE DEAD, you'd think she'd be a little more careful with the whole life support thing. :P
Hilarious that she lies awake at night contemplating how she'd murder someone at a hospital and make it look natural. :P

Just more dodgy characterization in order to make the whole "Doggett is the only one that wouldn't give up!" stance work better. :P
