I was a freshman in college when this episode aired, and I watched it today for the first time since. When I saw it the first time, I was watching with a new acquaintance with whom I became friends after she saw my X-Files poster on the wall. We watched in near silence at the end, and then after she left, I went into the bathroom and cried in the shower for 15 minutes, lol ( ... )

John Shiban loses my love on this one. I still cannot accept that the Gunman die because of some flipping purple, primordial ooze stuff. Say it ain't so!

Anyway, lame lame lame. I guess Scully was at home taking care of the baby for this one. SPOILER!while she still cares

Haha. Anyway, adios Gunman. How I did love thee...

I agree with you there! How dare them kill the LGM like that!? *sniffs*

It's ridiculous. They couldn't even die with dignity!

What I wrote in my LJ in 2002 right after it aired pretty much sums it all up:

OMG. I don't even know what to say. I'm to upset to do my XF review right now. Why the hell would CC do that?

And then later this: During the funeral scene, I thought Scully wasn't there at first and got really mad! But then she was. But of course, when she's *needed* to cry, nothing! All that pointless crying at the beginning of the season and then when it would be normal to cry, nothing :P gah! Oh well. I cried enough for the both of us.

Oh and something new I added on the rewatch... the LGM said they went broke looking for Yves. Um, they should have gone broke looking for MULDER. Who cares about Yves :P

Um, they should have gone broke looking for MULDER.

Seriously.

And I love that you have comments on your LJ about it from back in the day!

I pretend this episode doesn't exist. I remember watching it in open mouth horror as I realized what was happening.

In my mind, the guys are still in their basement, eating nachos and figuring out all of the government conspiracies.

Me too, exactly. I had a hard time closing my mouth that night. They were among my very favourite characters! I couldn't believe it happened.
The morning after I pretty much shook my head and muttered "All three of them!" to my friend all day. All week, and all month too I'm sure, haha...
So nothing happened. It was all a horrible nightmare, okay?
*sits you down at basement table and gets Jimmy to fry us all some pancakes*

It's funny, I've had friends get into the Files and I always warn them about this episode. I don't want them to go in completely unprepared as I was. I don't tell them what happens, I just say that it's bad and that I'll be there for them after they've seen it.

My feelings about this episode and its contents can easily be summed up in one word.

HATE.

PS: I believe the name "Jump the Shark" was supposed to be CC's little "fuck you" to everyone who thought XF had jumped the shark. It must've been so nice living in his fantasty world where he thought it hadnt.
