I guess I just...don't see the point? The series is over in like, two or three episodes. At that point in time, they didn't know if they would be a movie powerhouse in the future or utter a dying squeak and be done with The X-Files forever. So why give William away ( ... )

My thoughts on this episode can be summed up as follows --

>:(

That's pretty much it. Well, no, it's not -- I hate that the writers gave Mulder and Scully a baby just to take him away because of Chris Carter's ego he'd interfere with a possible post-series film franchise. I hate that William is essentially the reason Scully gets her autonomy taken away in S8 and she doesn't even get to keep him in the end. It's just . . . if Scully was just going to have to give William away in the end, what was the point of the pregnancy storyline in the first place? It's not like William would be necessarily safer with his adoptive family, anyway. It's just a mess.

This episode just proved how pointless the entire William storyline was.

HatehatehateHATE.

I promise, there is no one in this world who hates this more than I. SRSLY.

They made such a point to have Scully finish her pregnancy with relative safety, have the kid arrive safely, survive...but then gave him ridiculous superpowers (bad idea) and only to give him away? Hate.

And I seriously doubt William is safer with anonymous farm folk who have no idea what he can do or what kind of people the baby would attract if they were to track him down. They could be in so much danger yo.

*SCREAMS IN FRUSTRATION*

Oh and I remember reading back when this aired about how David, Gillian, Robert and various other people on the set - the ones who had children of their own - thought giving the child away was such a horrible decision. It made me feel better at the time for some reason.

This is what I wrote back in 2002:

I'm still in total shock (and really mad) about Scully giving William away. I mean, this is the same baby that she risked life and limb for all of season 8 and this season, one she fought to conceive...what the hell is going on!? I don't understand why she gave him up. I mean I do, but still! I think it's just a convienient (sp?) way to get rid of William now that he's "fine" and no longer needed in the storyline :P ( ... )
