A very interesting look at the lives and loves of Cancerman. Very nicely written.

Oh, wow. This is beautiful. I never thought I'd say that about CGB Spender fic, but why not, really? Your writing style is gorgeous and it all feels very in-character. I really like your use of repetition in the second section. And the way you've used the 'five things' format too. I really, really like this.

Thanks lovely <3 CSM is one of my favourite characters to write and I'm really pleased you liked this.

I always thought CSM had a thing for Scully. Great story. Gorgeous prose, as always.

Me too - that's definitely my headcanon. And thank you very much :)

Wow, this gives me a lot of feelings. I find the first and third bits particularly poignant- the first is such a small moment, more powerful I think because the profound loss in that moment is too big for the child he is to really grasp. And the emotional depth there- Charles longing to be touched by the friend he is losing- seems to me to have a sort of dark echo in his lack of feeling when holding his son for the first time. It's even sadder when I think about how Jeffrey's future will come to resemble his father's past- isolation, loneliness, the impossibility of escaping the shadow of an absent father. Just. Wow.

Thank you for such a lovely comment! I really love writing CSM - there's so much there that we can get our teeth into as a character study. I hadn't even thought about section 1 being like section 3, but I'm glad you picked it up :)

Is the guy in section two someone we're meant to recognize?

The section with Jeffrey was devastating. The section with Scully was chilling, too. Just the thought of that man's hands on her.

Strong writing.

Thanks Wen :)

I hadn't written him as such - in my head that took place during CSM's FBI training, but there's no reason why he couldn't be someone we'd recognise. Who would you think it is?
