Bloodwing screeched and did another circle around the bandit.
"Bloodwing, just..." Mordecai sighed. He cringed and shifted position to peer out of cover. When he was looking at the bandit, Bloodwing finally dove down and attacked. The bandit didn't last long at all. A splash of red and flurry of feathers and it was over.
Beside him, Lilith smirked.
"Shut up, Lil."
"What? It's cute Bloodwing wants you to see him every single time he makes a kill."
Mordecai rolled his eyes.
"Really cute," she added.
He knew she was trying to get a reaction out of him, but he couldn't help it. He scowled some more and looked around in case they'd missed any bandits. He knew they hadn't - Bloodwing got the last one - but it meant he didn’t have to look at Lilith smirking at him.
It was a good thing he was paying attention, because he saw a glimmer of movement. “Look,” he said, pointing further out. “More bandits.”
Lilith grinned. “Send Bloodwing? Or do you two need to hold claws awhile longer?”
Her comment didn’t land. Mordecai was already moving, seeking out a higher vantage point. Bloodwing circled high above, waiting for his command.
“Figures,” Lilith said. She burst into a dense cloud of crackling electricity and raced after them, in time to see Bloodwing swoop down at one of the bandits as Mordecai sniped the nearby bruiser. She glimmered out of phasewalk, demolishing the last two bandits.
Bloodwing shot over to her as if intending to land on her arm, thought better of it and flew back to rest on Mordecai’s arm. Mordecai scratched under her beak. “Someone’s gettin’ a treat.”
