My internship at the wildlife refuge is going well! The job is a breeze - perhaps a little too easy, but at $3.75/hr I better not have to work too hard

It's somewhat of a drag of a commute, but North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks have places that may be in your price range. You'd be able to Metro to work from North Hollywood station.

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for! I'm expecting the commute to suck no matter what, but with a station right next to the museum I'd prefer to take the Metro rather than sit in traffic at high gas prices. Someone else had suggested Culver City, which I could probably afford, but I would be scraping by unless I got really lucky finding a place. Even though I went to school in San Diego, I didn't spend enough time in LA to really get a good feel for what areas are safe and which ones aren't.

Culver is kind of pricey, and the other areas on the Expo line are not great. You could possibly afford Palms, which is nearly as close to the Culver metro, but I would take a look at a crime map while you do it as it has a pretty serious case of good block-bad block. (Crime maps in general are helpful.) Spotcrime.com is a good crime map.

Wow, I love that. If you ever do anything involving horses, I would a probably buy a print. I'm a sucker for horses, even when I have no money!

I am still looking, yes! Got my official offer letter today and will have considerably more wiggle room for rent than I thought, although I'm definitely not looking to break the bank.
