Lily, maybe that hated mom Rooster was referring to was someone authorized to make sure backstage runs smoothly and no one misses their cues? And that has happened with this "actor". If one knows theater and all the details that go into making a production run without problems, to rail against this mother is amateurish and clueless. For a guy who loves theater so much, no one can tell him anything, let alone give him direction, because after all, everyone has to get over themselves. Everyone except Rooster, of course.

Theatergoers can be known to give "big hands" because the show's over and certain characters are getting off the stage.
