I think poor Liz is still a bit too young, hurt and jaded to get the whole "its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" thing. I agree completely with your point of view. When Clem says, "but we will hate each other" and he says "so" that is so totally romantic. He wants to be with her, if even for 5 minutes, even if it means they will end up hating each other because those 5 minutes will be worth every second. Ahhh love so complicated yet so wonderful. There is a line from one of my favorite romantic comedies "The Mirror Has Two Faces" where Barbara Streisand is teaching a literature class and she is going on and on about tragic couples ala Tristan and Isolda, Lancelot and Gwenevere (sp?) and in the end she asks the class why would anyone want to fall in love when all it can lead to is pain and/or death and all the students give these intellectual answers like "we are biologically conditioned to want to propogate the species" and she says "good answers all but much to intellectual for me. No the real reason as ( ... )
