This a review drive by, otherwise half of the season will be over before I've posted anything.
New Shows
Covert Affairs: Been enjoying it so far. Piper Perabo is likable and believable as Annie. While Joan is a great steely yet caring contrast as her boss. Her and Peter Gallagher as dueling lovers both in the work place and at home works well for me. Now If I could only figure out why everyone and their mother has a gun except Annie. You'd think they'd give her one if only to prevent her from routinely getting her ass kicked every episode. Sydney Bristow and Nikita she isn't. Still, I'm enjoying the learning curve as Annie gets her spy on, I'm also surprisingly in love with her relationship with Auggie. They sparkle. And I'm finding Christopher Gorham disturbingly hot has August. Disturbing, because I've never been overly enamored of him in anything else and have actively heckled why he seemed to be a women magnet on other programs. As August I'm definitely feeling him. USA has another winner on its hand. Will tune in for next season.
Nikita: I knew the show wouldn't be has awesome as its predecessor, but I didn't think I'd be so bored. Maggie Q makes a good Nikita but it might have been a mistake to set her story outside of division instead of as an active field agent. Outside, she doesn't really get to interact with the rest of the cast (at least not for any length of time) which makes it hard to feel a sense of urgency or drama plot wise or get much development character wise. I can see the show writers trying to fix that by introducing Alex as the new recruit and giving us flashbacks of Nikita and CO. But I don't particularly care about Alex and the flashbacks are just not working for me. Then there's the complete cluster fuck of casting Shane West as Michael (Shane West is not a bad actor but he's horribly miscast as Michael) who looks the be the same age as the new recruits. No way is he believable as the senior most field agent in Division. The man who trained Nikita and is her equal and possibly better. Speaking of Michael/Nikita where's the chemistry and forbidden love. There are areas in Siberia the see more heat. The Michale/Nikita relationship is pivotal in both films and the series, yet here it's old news. Plus, the production value bites with division head quarters looking like the old initiative set from Buffy and Nikita's apt looking like an unfinished unit from the meat packing district. I'm going to Nikita my standard 6 or 7 episodes before I give up but somehow I don't think I going to see an improvement.
Haven't had a chance to see Boardwalk Empire, The Event, Hellcats, Lone Star, or Undecover
yet. Will watch this weekend. Hopefully.
Returning Shows
Vampire Diaries: The first episode was badass. Stefan was badass. Katherine was badass. Bonnie was kinda smug but still badass. Elena going for a knife to cut a bitch was badass. Damon was sad but then badass (there was a theme you see). The 2nd episode although not as badass (OK that's the last time) was still good. Carolyn made an awesome vampire. Loved her getting some of her own back with Damon. Her scene with Stefan in the bathroom was wonderful (Stefan is going to be the best daddy) while her scene with Matt at the end made giddy as did the Elena/Stefan scene at the end. Mostly the 2nd EP was set up the Tyler and his rather cesty uncle's storyline. Bring on the werewolves.
Can't wait for Dexter and Supernatural to start up again.
Season Enders (That I just saw)
True Blood: *Sigh* I've come to the conclusion that Alan Ball wouldn't know a good season finale if it rode him like a mechanical bull on a Friday during happy hour (not that I'd know anything about that) . I mean as a producer and writer he gives great mid season, but his foreplay and climax leave much to be desired. That finale was a hot mess with more loose threads then a 20 year old sweater.
Supernatural: So Kripke your great five year plan in the making ends with Sam!Lucifer falling into a hole with IThinkICan!Adam!Michael. Seriously show!...............No really!!.......................... I sorry but the smell of bullshit is quite heavy in the air this morning. Does anyone else think that if this had been the final season Dean!Michael would have had a knock out, drag down fight with Sam!Lucifer that ended in both their deaths? Or at the very least something a bit more epic then them falling into a hole in the ground. Yeah me too. If I hadn't enjoyed the earlier half of the season so much I would be deeply disappointed.
Haven't seen the finales for White Collar or Leverage yet.
