Yes, the stripey part is because of the mesh's mapping. It seems to be stretched there so the pixels get elongated. Maybe it will look better if you turn the top's texture 90°?

edit: I did, and it comes out pretty much the same :P. I think I'm going to have a go at some different meshes for now.

You're welcome! I just noticed I said it the wrong way around: The mapping is compressed there, not stretched, meaning the part on the texture is narrower than the actual proportions on the mesh.

Yes, I understood what you mean. I didn't notice on the original mesh because the recolor was dark.
