Thoughts on House MD finale

I posted majority of this as a comment in the discussion at sick_wilson, but then I've realized that even if I'm only seldom using this LJ for actuall posts, I still want to keep these thoughts archived here :) You are free to react here or in the comm if you feel like it. If you don't that's fine.

I started watching when the 4th season started in 2007 and I was quickly hooked. During the years I met some great people and House was also my first real fandom, so that makes it extra special.

House/Wilson friendship was the most important part of the show for me after catching up and speedwatching the first three seasons, and by that time I didn't even know what the word slash meant... :)

I admit losing some of the interest in the show during the S7, but well, let' say the writing was just dumb. They've lost a good character with Cuddy, but to be honest after everything in the Huddy arc, I didn't miss her in S8 at all and it actually made me to watch the show again.

The ending arc with Wilson's cancer could have been done a bit better (and yeah, more medicaly realistic) in some places and could definitely be a lot less rushed. I'd add at least 2-3 episodes to it, but one can't have everything so after all, I guess I'm happy it was about H/W in the end, as it should have been.

Overall, I'm happy with the ending. Or let's say definitely satisfied and that's good. I was fearing much worse scenarios so the fact that we actually got to see them riding off together in sunshine and leather jackets put a nice smile on my face through the tears I was shedding at the moment (because I'm always very sentimental when something ends, albeit happily). I would have loved if they had more time together. On the other hand, I really believe and trust some of the alternative medicine, so I can always assume that Wilson has tried something and prolonged his life considerably :) And that is why I'm happy that we got this sort of "open" ending for our own interpretation. I seriously didn't believe that Shore would give us such thing.

The first half of the ep was all wtf? for me, but I loved the last 15 or so minutes. And I'm also proud I called the faked death like some other people did. Great stuff. It was interesting, because I just didn't believe for a second that House died while I was watching, yet I still cried during the morgue scene and the funeral :p but I was waiting for something to happen as I was somehow sure that it wouldn't just end like this.

So I'm curious. While watching, did you guys believe for a moment that House was really dead, or not?

I love the fact that he did all this for Wilson! He gave up everything. If this isn't love, I don't know what is. I agree with the majority of people that House would follow Wilson when their time is up. And it's kind of comforting thought to me, because I can't imagine him alone. So they got these months as a bonus. No job, no obligations. They are free to be happy together.

This arc has surely fulfilled some of my sick!Wilson goals. I always wanted to see House worried and facing the loss of Wilson, but I guess I'd have been happier if it was only something curable after all. Cancer was too much a blow for me and I was pissed that they made thymoma II immediately lethal, but oh well. I guess that as someone already cited House: almost dying changes nothing... so we probably wouldn't have gotten all the wonderful H/W stuff if it wasn't for such a serious reason.

There was really a great deal of hurt/comfort in the C-word. Again, I'd have liked it more if Wilson could be nursed back to health!

Did it answer all our questions about the HW relationship?
I definitely think that their relationship/love is not questionable anymore :)

To sum it up. I liked the ending way more than I expected. I think that if there already was this terminal-cancer arc that it couldn't have ended better for us as viewers. I'm sad it's over, but it was a great ride. Also, fortunately, this ending enables me to rewatch, which I wouldn't be able to - had Wilson died, so that's good as well.

Now I'm in need of some fics with Wilson's cancer in remission and I'll be all happy! ;)
