Wow... very powerful piece of poetry. I really like this - you have talent!

Honesty is the last thing I use with them, all of them, with him
He isn’t my world, he can’t be my world
He isn’t my friend
He isn’t my love
So am I maturing?
Or am I a spineless fool, making excuses for the mistakes I’ve made, and the life I now live?

This end section tugged at my heart. Very good.

This is very good. I find it difficult to adequately express my thoughts in poem form, but you do it admirably. You don't have to be savvy - just pay attention and look with your heart. I think you, pretty much, described John spot on in his later years. That is, if he ever went so far as to analyze himself.If often wonder.
