Baja Fresh SUCKS!

Apr 12, 2006 12:49

Stephen wants to go there for lunch, so while I'm waiting for him to get here, I look up their online menu. Everything has like 800+ calories! How do they shove 900 calories into a BEAN AND CHEESE burrito? Are they kidding me?

Even their salads are like 38g of fat and 700 calories or something! They SUCK!

Don't get me started on Baja Fresh. On one hand, I'm pretty dedicated to them (they don't do this anymore, but at one point they had big signs in each store saying which "number" Baja that was ... the one in my hometown was #2, so I've been eating there forever). But I do see how calorie-rich their food is. (Which makes you question just about anything else healthy-seeming that you eat.) However, my husband seems to think that Baja is the best thing sinced sliced bread, and will even go so far as to say that it's FAR healthier than eating at a typical fast food place. We have these elaborate arguments where I pit a standard cheeseburger, say Burger King, against a chicken burrito from Baja. Jon swears the burrito would win, but I promise you that a cheeseburger has less fat/calories.

If you must eat at Baja, a decent option is to get a chicken, shrimp or grilled fish soft taco (corn tortilla) with no chips and a side of beans. :)

This is a big gripe of mine - places that "act" like they are a "healthy" fast food option, but are essentially no different than eating a McD's Big Mac ( ... )

Oh, I ADORE the bean and cheese burrito from Baja! Luckily there are no Baja Freshes on the West Coast of Florida, but when we lived in Ft. Lauderdale, on the East Coast, we ate there ALL the time. I aways used to snack on the pepercinis (sp?) because they take forever to eat and are strangely filling. I wonder if there is a way to only order the bean burrito, no cheese? Because that is what contributes to all the fat AND sodium in the burrito. Yum, now I want to make the three-hour drive across state for lunch...

DOOOOOOOOOON'T DO IT! hahaha About the only fast food place I eat now is a place called El Pollo Loco. I know what is on their menu that is relatively decent and I order the same thing all the time. Otherwise, I just bring my lunch from home.

That's a good idea though - the burrito with no cheese. How boring though.

Wow! I am only recently learning how many calories some stuff has and I am shocked. The burrito chain I go to here (Tijuana Flats) has a "power lite" option where they use fat free sour cream and low fat cheese. I love it!

Yeah, you really have to find places like that and stick to them if you don't want to be thrown off your healthy eating kick. I always MEAN to pack a lunch, but on days when I don't I have no choice but to go forage the fast food joints around here for something DECENT. I'm so conscious of it now, it's almost a chore. I end up just resorting to the same place I always go to, just because I know it's "safe", you know?
