Did LJ die?

Feb 25, 2010 20:54

Someone recently told me that "LJ is dead."* I know it's had its problems in the past with mass migrations and whatnot, and although I know I've asked this before (about every couple of years, actually), where do people go to? I refuse to do any of that Twitter nonsense, and MySpace and Facebook are far too annoying for me to deal with, IMHO ( Read more... )

Ironically, a z(cluster) Facebook page has brought about an interesting awakening amongst the chaos current. As much as you hate Facebook, it's a pretty entertaining group once again.

Facebook has been my one-stop shopping for a variety of different friends that seem to span a large range of social groups. I have friends groups that are poly, are chaotes, burners and farmers. I don't seem to touch on that kind of diversity here - my LJ is kept a little more private to folks who I know and trust.

That said - I miss posts with content on LJ. I really enjoyed reading people's thoughts and ideas and hearing about tidbits of their lives. Thankfully VI still posts, but I miss RR's blurbs (though he's doing a great job of stirring the masses on FB.)

Heh. That might be the straw that broke my resolve to boycott FB. I might at least check it out...

Yeah, lj can get depressing... I moved to WP, but my lj gets automagikally updated when I post, that way I can maintain/nourish those connections. I also tweet, and they are tracked in a widget on my WP.

You looking for something specific?

I'm not sure WHAT I'm looking for.

I'm largely looking for a personal "re-boot" re: my Relationship to the internet and computers in many ways, as I often do after any hiatus from the internet.

This is one of those topics that I hope to write about this weekend, to better play out my thoughts...

LJ didn't die. All my social interactions did. I hate facebook. I'm sure there's datamining going on here, but not to the extent of what FB and its affiliates do.

Most of my friends here went to Facebook, and I succumbed. But I still post here because this is the only place where substantive discussions can be had. Facebook is just quick and dirty.

Yeah, Facebook siphoned off a lot of people. And now people are wasting their time on status updates that get lost in the ether instead of real content that lasts forever.
