Keepsie stands, as usual, behind the bar. The weekends are the only days the bar opens up early-- if one can count 10 AM as early-- so they can do brunch. It's not as popular with the locals as Keepsie was hoping, with the Seventh City Diner down the road taking most of the after-church crowd (apparently there were regulars that had been going there and ordering the same thing for years), but some of the Institute students and staff were coming in.
She's put up a couple of signs that say that the bar is a mutant safety zone, and it hasn't really been good for business. Keepsie doesn't particularly care-- she's doing well enough to break even, and it was worth going through a bit of hardship to keep the bar a safe place. It wasn't just that she wanted the Institute customers to feel safe; she wanted to feel safe herself.
It's chilly and drizzly outside, with raindrops so small they bordered on mist but that would cloud your winshield or glassses in an instant. Keepsie's switched out her normal Sunday brunch staple-- a pitcher of mimosas with fresh-squeezed orange juice-- with a hot pot of mulled cider. The smell of cinnomin and cloves wafts over the inside of the bar, making it warm and cozy. There's a small pasty case with Nutella croissants and a few different kinds of muffins, including blueberry, chocolate chip, and lemon poppyseed.
An old-fashioned chalkboard, probably bought from one of the local colleges after the professors switched to PowerPoint, had the list of specials:
- Blueberry Waffles (Vegan on request)
- Spinach and Smoked Salmon Crepes
- Bagel with Lox
- Chocolate Raspberry Pancakes
- Fresh Fruit and Yogurt
- Quiche Lorraine
