I think most of you knew Orlando Hale when he lived here - and that most of you know he now works for S.H.I.E.L.D. I've just been told - at rather short notice - that he's been working with a spy planted in the Brotherhood of Mutants, and he, in turn, has just been informed that the Brotherhood is, as we speak, launching an attack on Genosha.
[he holds up his hand to pre-emptively quell any interruptions] Apparently Genosha operates on a system of mutant slavery - this is news as much to me as it is to you, I assure you, although S.H.I.E.L.D. has, according to Orlando, possessed this information for some time now; he claims S.H.I.E.L.D. had every intention of taking action against Genosha, but whatever the case, they have not acted quickly enough to prevent Magneto from getting there first.
What Orlando has been able to ascertain from his contact is that they are seeking to disable the power-inhibiting devices used to keep the slaves captive, and lead the freed mutants as some kind of army against the people of Genosha - then, perhaps, the world.
I think we can all agree that what Genosha is doing is inexcusable, but I'm sure all of you know better than to presume that Magneto is the man to undo it. I don't know if we will be able to stop him. But, if we can, we must at the very least attempt to provide the mutants of Genosha with a better example to follow than Magneto will doubtless offer them - and we have no time to lose.
