There is another perspective: the earth is warming but how do we know that it's from industrialization or just a natural cycle of the earth's climate?
I don't see why the film has to be shown at all to teach kids about global warming. The green house effect can be explained by a few drawings on the white board. It's not really necessary to show a documentary.
Anyway, I think people who get so worked up about what's being taught to their kids should either do homeschool or send their kids to private schools.
I haven't had the chance to see the movie but I just found it a lil silly as to how extreme the parent went and their reasoning. It's his belief but it's not logical. If the movies really sells the idea then well it's probably not a good idea just to show it w/out a permission slip but if it's informative then why not.
yea i agree, if the parents get really worked up about it then they should send their kids to a private school.
Federal Way has as diverse a population as any; ethnic, socio-economic, religion, and gender. We got them all!
I feel this could have been less of an issue if there was less of a gap between parents and teachers. It is the teacher's responsibility to communicate what is going on in their classroom to not only the students but the parents as well.
It's just weird to think that global warming almost as taboo an issue as sex education, but that's the city I live in. It's the city I grew up in, and there's a sliiiiiiiiiiight chance that I'll teach here. I hope it's 50 years from now, and by that time I'll have pictures of melting ice caps all over my walls.
yea i understand the whole diverse population..culture...here at work one parent didn't want a student to be taking a fun cooking class b/c he believed his son is a man and shouldn't be learning womanly skills. oy
it is the teacher's responsibility to inform the parents as well, but come on...the dudes reasoning of global warming is b/c it's a sign of Jesus' Judgement day. wow.
teachers tend to teach where they are from/live. I hope you get a good place your first year! :)
people need to learn how to take in information critically and not blindly subscribing to it, even if one side of an issue is all they know. you have to take everything with a grain of salt--if the evidence for its counterpoint isn't provided for you, the flaws in the point itself can tell you whether it's credible on its own. or else one side of an issue can't ever be discussed without waiting for its counterpoint to scrap up enough information to contest it.
