I'm sure all amateur writers have failed plot lines. This plot never had a chance, yet it managed to get typed up. I just don't know the hell why. Maybe this is what happens when you work 12-16 hours for four days straight and then imagine you can write some damned fan fiction on your off-day.
In this FailedPlot, Ki'sekiko did some magic tricks

I even did it on purpose in Once and Future and in Entanglement just so I could have a character deconstruct the concept, and as a reminder to myself and my readers of why this stuff doesn't work; not everyone got joke, unfortunately. I think it garnered exactly two laughs -- both from the same writer/reader.

I don't even have the presence of mind to do something like this on purpose. It just happens fairly regularly and it drives me crazy. Ultimately, I need to clear the mess from my head. Perhaps I need to write it in order to rid myself of it. I wish there was a simpler way.

You did well then!

I'm glad you've found it interesting. Thank you. Perhaps if this had been another story in another setting, I wouldn't have had qualms about using it.
In the Upheaval universe though, I believe the use of such a plot device would diminish Nyota's awesomeness. Using it would cheapen her gifts and it would cheapen the overall series. Instead, I feel obligated as the writer/creator to make Nyota's relationship with Ki'sekiko, as well as Spock's, more meaningful. I need Nyota to earn the reputation that has been bestowed upon her. A dear friend of mine expended a great deal of time and effort to help me get Nyota across...
Could telepathy play a part? You bet. I'd be a fool to ignore Spock's gifts. Could Romulan ultimately be Nyota's mother tongue? Oh yes! That would be a story, wouldn't it?
Opps... have I been babbling? Sorry. :(
Thank you for suffering through this!

Even when I trash scenes, I generally do not trash ideas. I'm sure this will come up somewhere. I am planning on writing a different Uhura/Spock set during and after the movie. In it, I will work on the assumption that they've perhaps made out, but never had a full relationship (i.e. no dating or sex). I normally follow genre characters on two journeys.
