Years ago I got a credit card. It had a tiny little limit, and I used it very little. I was terrible about paying it, but since it never carried much of a balance, even the sick-penalty-pricing interest rate didn't concern me much. 30% interest on a $300 balance is still not _that_ bad. Hmmm well we have some other financial stuff we need to deal with as well so I'm thinking that we have a budget/money discussion tonight. I'll try to get everything together for it before hand so it can be brief.

They may be willing to negotiate, especially if you can say "I'll give you X if you close out the account right now and call it good". Be sure to get "Paid as Agreed" in writing. This will probably negatively affect your credit rating, so you may want to just work on the $2K, but I'd definitely want them to send me a copy of the history.

Make sure there's nothing unexpected on it, and perhaps they'll negotiate on the charges.

yeah... oddly enough, the people who can actually do that aren't in the office today. Apparently they always take the first part of the month off? Bank hours/days have always struck me as having been written by Martians.

It's traditional for Mondays to be lightly staffed for banking. Golf courses - Mondays for bankers, Wednesdays for Doctors.
