I've been there and some parts are quite nice. They don't have, and don't need, any military as all the central american honchos use Costa Rica for banking, so if their minions get out of line within the relevant borders they tend to disappear forever when they get home.
Many parts are quite nice, and the tap water is about as good as ours is (or was back when we cared about tap water 8-).
The only time I got sick there, over the course of a month, was after eating at a restraunt run by a guy from our country.
There are, or were, two fruit juices sold everywhere. "Red Fruit" which was tasty, and some strange thing that looked like a suspension of grit stirred into light clear syrup, which was super good.

But the jungles and ocean will still be there, and maybe we can sneak off to wherever the folks who work at the resort live at some point.
